Angry Winter Driving

“Trapped” here in Rochester, NY with slick roads and my 2004 Crossfire's rear end is all over the place.

Hate to buy “winter tires” for a couple of months,

Am wondering if 200# of bagged sand in the back and lowering the pressure in rear tires 2 to 3# would make a significant difference.

If not, what tires have worked?

When I say “all over the place” I ain't kidding!

Help!!!

But, as with the rest of you, absolutely love my Crossfire!

Im sure that will help to some degree, Im in DC and expecting about 5-7 inches, cover is on the car and I dont expect to drive it for 3-4 days. I think with every crosffire should come with an old beater of a 4wd for those few weeks you need it. except got you guys that live further up north that may require it a little longer. But in any case the crossfire just isnt an all year round Northern car unles you go out and purchase some thin steel rims and winter tires(and im talking the ones with the metal studs in them cus with real wheel drive you'll need it). Its ironic that I actually traded in my Land Rover for the crossfire, a little diff in the snow. :-) best bet is to stay inside keep warm stay off the streets and be safe.

I feel for you MI Roadster. I spent three years in Ohio and that was enough of the white stuff for me. It's nice for an occasional ski trip. But other than that, you can have it.

Thanks everyone. Going to price tires tommorrow.

Started out to my office yesterday in wife's Focus. Found roads were dry when I got out of our Condo Complex and could not stop myself from turning around and going back for “The Machine” which “I don't get into, I put it on.” This was a quote I got from this site while I was "thinking it over" prior to purchase. This is an amazing machine and it is infinately worth whatever "inconviences” may be involved, but, I wouldn't want to get emotional. :-)

5-6 people stop me every week asking what it is and I give 'em my standard line, that “At my age, I decided it was time to go out and get a car I realy can't afford.” That's really not all that true but it sure relaxes them and I emote all over the place. Fun for all!

Still, it looks like Crossfires aren't selling well which is a real shame!

Fire going, game soon on, Crossfire in the garage where as some of you have said it surely belongs!

Best

I just got my Roadster LTD this morning (aero blue, black/slate interior)--yay! I've been like a kid waiting for Christmas--purchased it a week ago Saturday, was supposed to get it this past Saturday, but let it sit at the dealer's this weekend with the 15 inches of snow, since I have no garage. They mother-henned me to death--it was a good call, though. Better it should be the old VW Cabrio getting dug out yesterday than the new car.

Anyway: I have the all-weather tires and today, coming home from work, got to see what the car is like in the snow. There's a lot of useful info on this site, and I'd already read up on it...and I'm pleased to say that it was actually great in the bad weather. (I work in northwestern NJ and live about 30 miles east (Morristown), and the snow was coming down something fierce, with Route 80 just a couple of tire tracks through the snow in two lanes.) I experienced absolutely no sliding or slipping. Not to say that I won't take it to an empty parking lot and play a bit at some point, since I've only ever had front-wheel drive cars, and I'd like to get a real feel for this thing in bad weather off the highway. But I was very pleased.

I live up a gradual hill, and the plowing was bad (snow, no blacktop visible). Just got up it by going slowly. Little slipping but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall, very pleased.

And I am LOVING the car thus far. In fact, I'm going to go do some errands I'd usually just put off, only because I want to drive it.
