Hi Guys, new member looking for a roadster. I have just started looking for a Crossfire Convertible and it seems that the prices on them are all over the map. I have seen low mileage (under 20K) verts for sale for $10K all the way up to the low 20's. KBB value on a 20,000 mile roadster is $10,900 and Nada is $10,700. Why such a wide range of prices on these cars? I have always had a fair weather toy car and usually prices are more consistent than this, your thoughts?

 

Rarity plane and simple. Some people feel their cars are collector gold, others see them as just vehicles. I fall in the middle. I bought my roadster 05 w/ 8.5 K original miles needing nothing for $11,900 just under two years ago. This was a steal and these cars had yet to pop up on the car enthusiats radar. Now these cars have started to become a collector item b/c of what they are, and if I were to now sell my car w/ the 13.5K miles it has on it I would ask for $14-15K for itb/c I know I own one of the cleanest examples on the road.

On cars older than 10 years the Blue book prices can't be trusted. an example is I had before this a very rare 95 Miata M edition w/ 45K original miles on it. KBB said it was worth $3500 and that was completely laughable, I ended up selling the car for $6000 and I had 5 buyers who wanted it.

 

I bought my all black 2007 XF coupe from CarMax for $14,000.00 I knew what I wanted and was not shopping for price si I say whats it worth to you.

 

Three other things that effect value are location, how many are available and time of year you are buying. Some color combos are harder to find and of course always miles and care.

 

Just bought one here in MA. Lots of available research on the web. Found a red '05 convertible limited 6 speed, black leather, with 30k miles off Craigslist in NH. Owner had it listed for $13,900. Negotiated $11,250. Was above all values on Edmunds, NADA, KBB, but car is cherry and included custom car cover. Went to see the car owner stuck at $12,500 my final offer was $11,000. Walked away but gave her my paperwork with Carfax and called me 2 days later to sell. Don't be afraid to walk away, do your homework, check across country. Private sellers are least expensive and Craigslist has many. eBay also. I didn't want to settle for anything but what I got. Negotiation is the key.

There are also different Crossfire roadster models . . . Base, Limited, Special Edition and SRT6. Do your homework, be patient, and you'll find the right Crossfire at the right price!

 

Down here in So. Florida you can buy a Limited Roadster for as high as $20k to a low of $6k. depends on condition and mileage

 

I test drove a manual shift 04 limited coupe..pretty red with 141K on it, interior dash laft side vent cracked, telescoping portion of the steering wheel wouldn't lock, left front inner fender liner shattered, thick grime under the radiator, in need of A and B service, wrong rear tires on it, clutch was at the wall, new RCM..lol, they wanted 6900.00...said theyd take 4G cash..then I decided it wasn't even worth 4G...so, yea, do your homework and don't be afraid to walk....(A third Xfire???...lol)

 

I just bought a 2005 roadster limited for $2700.00. It has a few issues but nothing I can't handle

 

We also got a 2005 Limited Roadster Red with white interior all new tires mint condition with 32,000 miles for $12,000. It was what we were looking for.

 

Should we chalk this up to one of those "famous last words" things?

Crossfires remind me of the De Tomaso Pantera. A joint venture between an American and European car manufacturer that didn't sell too well sound familiar? I was looking at them about ten years ago and you could find one that had been nicely restored for 30k. Now, they're going for 120K. A bunch of enthusiasts got together and started a car club and kept them alive. Just as we're doing with the Crossfire.

 

I had a high school friend with a bright red one. It is my recollection they sold for just over $20K new. In all those years it seemed that is where they were stuck right at $20-22K maybe dropping to half that at around the ten year point then bouncing back. Not appreciating like many other classics and certainly with more to offer by any measure than most.

It is much the same with the Crossfire. It is without a doubt a unique special interest car. I think much of the problem is with owners who do not realise this. Special interest cars are not for the general market and take an informed buyer to properly value them.

Just as Pantera is not a car to trade in at Car max, the Crossfire is not either. Just as the Pantera is finally being more widely discovered and highly valued so too will the Crossfires with time and the right informed owners, I am thinking.
