Default Why do the swap?

I was planning to do a V8 swap in my crossfire but have been quoted from 10k with me doing everything but the computer to 20k for a hands off turn key swap. I want the SL55AMG engine but I'm starting to wonder if I should just buy the blasted Merecedes. If you have a crossfire with a swap, why didn't you take that route? Preowned SL55 AMG's can be had for the price of the swap.

because the sl55 amg won't be a crossfire.

I also think the crossfire is lighter, doesn't have the suspension that costs about 2.5 k - 5 k to fix (price might be off but parts are stupid expensive.)

Idk, financially it still doesn't make sense. It's kind of like putting $6,000 wheels on a $1500 car.

Because the tip of my nose is not above my eyebrows and I don't need the label of a high end car.
That, and when I had it done 6 years ago prices for an SL were not even close.
No regrets,
I am just enjoying my new jeep these days and my crossfire just sits

It's not really looking down the tip of my nose. Lol. I'm just saying I've seen the SL's go for like 23,000. If you've done the swap for less than 20k please point me in that direction.

Love the SRT, hate the wing. But I might just have to go that route.

Agreed on the "wing". Can't stand that ironing board on the back.
Now an SRT6 with an NA spoiler would be an ideal car.

Conversions have been done and it is a lot less cost and work than an engine swap.

The good thing about the big wing is it can be useful

and pissed me off.....lol...... Leave my ironing board out of it....damn skate boarders... Good hearing from you Beaner. As for the swap. You aren't a candidate for a swap if you don't understand it... The few who have them, love them, and it was what they wanted to do. It isn't easy, but the end result is astonishing. And it will run, handle and scare the hell out of you more so than any factory MB I have been in.... And I have been in a few. The only one near this conversion is a 63 black, which sold for nearly 200k.

I'm not questioning the reasoning for the swap. I'm questioning do I need to really spend 20k on it, for that price I can buy two SRT 6's.

yes. you need to spend 20k.
maybe 18k if you get a very high mileage one.

anyone can and everyone can get a mercedes, I did the swap because i have always had what others didn't or couldent own,, the AMX that ran in the low 11.s for example yes i do it for the hp/speed/drag racing at the track. a pt cruiser that runs in the 12's and now a crossfire that runs in the 10's
it it easer to build a chevy,,yes but anyone can build a chevy,, and or swap a bigger engine into a chevy,, now crossfire that is a different question
as for the money,, first the crossfire,,$ 13 to $19000 then the swap $20000. he swap
I did the swap july 2010 and never looked back ,,,the only thing close to this car is the 2017 R8.
and again anyone can go to a dealer and buy a R8,, Only you can make the swap . jim

This doesn't have to be an expensive project. If you want to fit the 5.4L supercharged engine, then there's a lot of other driveline upgrades you're going to need and it all costs money (just for the parts). However, you could just fit a 5L N/A motor with some SRT6 brakes and leave everything else as it is (I wouldn't even worry about changing the gearbox). A 5L V8 in a Crossfire will give you all the performance you need for everyday driving and will sound great.

being that we have done a few V8's 2 is S florida and 7 up north. I can say between Rudy . JSBenz and myself we can tell you , the modified srt 6 will out perform a aspirated 5.0 ,, the only way to go is a 5.5 supercharge amg motor. and others on the fourm also have tested this. it is either stay with the srt 6 or go with a amg V8,,,from Rudy) lol..
does it have to be expensive?.. this is not expensive, whew else can you get a high performance two seater sport car that runs in the low 11.s or high 10;s?,, you can't now you could buy mine for $40,000.00 if u do i 'll build a faster one lol. jim
