2006 Crossfire convertible rear bumper replacement - what effect does this repair have on the car's resale value? Car was parked and hit by a City truck backing out of a parking place - less than 10 MPH - sliced right through the bumper.


Being that I was in the process of trying to trade in or sell to purchase another vehicle, this now will show the car was in an accident and diminish the value. I am in the process of filing a claim with the city and need to estimate the diminished value. Estimate for repairs is ~$1500-$1900.

How many miles on the car? That seems to have more of a dimishing factor than a good quality repair. But an accident on a car fax, be it small even, my guess 1to 2k. Maybe more as a trade-in.

 

82K miles on the car - exterior perfect until this......I was thinking at least 1500 but I know it it is traded, the value could be higher which is why I was looking for some guidance......

I don't think there would be much affect on valuation. At that mileage and these years a minor accident with a quality repair shouldn't really move the needle.

 

My son had his PU rear ended. It has been repaired very well. He tried to go through the "diminished value" issue with the other insurance company. I recall they offered but to prove what the exact difference was is nearly impossible to know. They won't accept guessing!

Drop it and move on with life!

If a city is paying for repairs, I doubt the accident will even show up on any insurance company’s radar. Even so, it isn’t like they are collectible. It will hard to prove. If you can con them into a grand, then I would think that you did very well.

 

Be glad the city is paying for the damages. Here in Akron Ohio, the city can totally destroy your car and they're off the hook (No Fault Insurance). Your insurance has to pick up the tab.

 

If they replace the bumper and do a quality paint job, no one will ever know the difference. No one is buying these vehicles as concourse trophies and if you can demonstrate the replacement was done by a reputable shop, you should be good. The age and mileage of the vehicle drives the depreciation, which is already severe with Crossfires.
