Default Coolant: clean, flush and fill

Should I go to a Chrysler dealership for this service or can I trust a place called Pep Boys that perform this service. I know that the dealer will be higher.
Thank you

If you can, do it yourself.
Very easy to do and no time at all.
I am an old fashion backyard wrench from the 60s and enjoy working on my ride.
Lot of info here and great minds to abuse and they all love it.

Thank you for the reply, calls for Reverse Osmosis water which the PeP Boys dealer can't do. Not sure about the dealer but there price is $189.00 + tax.
Can't do it myself.

Do you have a picture of your car

Thumbs down Re: Coolant: clean, flush and fill

antifreeze and distilled water period. DONT GO TO DEALER for anything if you can help it, they are going to rip you off. There are articles here on doing it and then there is utube.

I wont buy from them though I wanted the 475 hp durango to replace my hemi. Their policies and costs, service are toxic!!!!!!!!!! Woody

While in general, I agree with the feedback that a Chrysler dealer will charge higher for this service than reasonable, the bigger issue is finding a dealer that has experience servicing these cars. Keep in mind, it's been 10 years since these cars were last produced and most of the dealers don't have the knowledge anymore to service these cars. I just happen to be lucky in that there is a dealer in my area that still has 2 Service Techs experienced & trained to work on these cars.

But it would have to be something major for me to take the car to that dealer. You are much better off finding an independent shop that specializes in the German auto makes. With Mercedes-Benz knowledge, you have a shop that can handle nearly everything that could be a repair or standard service since the XFire is essentially an M-B R170 chassis. And these shops typically charge less than dealer standard rates. And again, I have one of these shops in my local area, too. And their reputation is outstanding in the M-B community.

And like previous feedback, most routine servicing (i.e., oil changes, coolant system flush & refill, brake system flush & refill, brake pads, etc.) I would do myself.

My manual says that the cooling system requires 11.8 quarts. Is that just for the coolant itself or does that include the 50% water needed. So 50% water and 5.9 quarts of coolant.
Sorry for the dumb question.
Thank you

Question my 06 with just shy of 15K has never been flushed. Is it time to flush?

Yes, age as much as mileage counts.

Is it necessary to replace the thermostat every time the coolant system is flushed?

No it is not necessary to change the thermostat every time. But if your car is over 10 years old and you are running the original, I would recommend.
