Default A quick hello

Just a quick hello from a new Crossfire Roadster owner here in the not so sunny (now I've bought a roadster!) UK.

I've only done about 2,000 miles, so far in the 3 weeks I've had it, but it just keeps getting more entertaining - particularly as I learn to drive a rear wheel again after so many years of front and awd.

I love the engine, auto box, shape, color (graphite), comfort and handling (I actually even like the steering!). The jury's still out on the center console and the hifi - may have to change both at some point; but then, it wouldn't be a crossfire and all it represents, so I may leave it totally standard.

Anyway, I think the forum is excellent, so keep up the good work!

Congratulations and welcome!

I feel for you...about a week or two after acquiring my roadster we had record rain non-stop for over a month straight! My husband blamed it on me...you know, you wash your car and it rains; well, I bought a roadster and hence we had record rain. haha, anyways, Congrats again!

Welcome. I bought my Crossfire Roadster in February and I live in the state of Pennsylvania, which is not noted for sunshine either. But I like the car very much. It is the first sports car I ever owned and I am impressed. But then I have never driven any other sports cars to compare.

My ancestors came from England. And in August I will be going to the Concours d'Elegance (August 21st) at Pebble Beach, California. Sir Sterling Moss is going to be there to describe his exciting exploits on and off the track. I thought if I get the opportunity I would like to introduce myself, as my last name is Moss too. Perhaps we are related through the past some way. I suppose I should address him as Sir Sterling. But that sounds strange. But don't think I should use cousin Sterling (Ha. Ha.) What is the proper form?

Welcome from the west coast! Hardly ever not sunny except last season's rain. Emblems? Sale for roadsters is still on.

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Mopar - in actual fact I had some great weather for the first couple of weeks (got quite dramatic sunburn before I realized the perils of open top!). But my colleague took delivery of his Nissan 350z Coupe last week (another fabulous car, but a totally different character) and we've not had a dry day since - he's terrified of squeezing that vicious throttle!
APM - Sir Stirling is the proper address, but Sir is fine or Speedy would be good!
Bob - I'm currently based in Yorkshire, but originally from Nottingham
Dan - My company has two 4kw lasers - I'm already getting my engineers looking at reverse engineering the front lower grill (we already produce polished stainless radiator grills for other cars) and the center console, so I don't think I'll be a customer for your badges!

Have fun (rain or shine)

Martin

I have a laser too... only 250 watts. I would be interested in a custom grill so keep me in the loop. I like the Chrysler emblems that came with the car and I'm sure they will last for years. We have family in Stamford.

Martin, Hi from another UK (Staffs) Crossfire owner (Coupe).

Love the idea of a new center console and grill. Quite like the general style of the original but prefer the chrome on the doors rather than the painted plastic.

Be interested in hearing how you and your mate take to your cars, 350Z or XF is a decision lots of XF owners have had to make. Let us know if you swap cars for a drive! Don't regret my decision but it was based more on style than performance, I love the auto box, with a little work the car will fly around roundabouts and the motorway cruising is almost silent and effortless.

I have to say the driving in the rain is fun in the XF, if a little tame, don't think that will be the case with the 350Z. Finally how sad is this, I want to see what the XF looks like tearing down a (empty) wet motorway throwing up a plume of spray behind.

Martin, nice to see another UK roadster. Had mine two months - no regrets and loads of fun, yet to see another one on the road around here (New Forest). I am heading to West Yorkshire next weekend, look out for a crossfire heading your way in the rain.

I seriously looked at the 350Z before deciding on the crossfire. The 350Z has really stupid doors that made it impossible to exit the car in my garage and also had really poor (dangerous IMO) visibility. Going for the crossfire rather than the 350Z was a real no brainer.

Malcb - we've already swapped the 350z and the crossfire for a comparison. I love the Nissan, it feels really quick through the gears and has a wonderful sound. I would say it's about 5mph quicker than the crossfire on the straights, and fairly evenly matched on the twisty bits. My colleague thinks the crossfire is wonderful, particularly the looks, the ride, and the sound. At the end of the day they're both fairly quick, enormously fun cars, but very different in their character. I couldn't imagine driving a 350z every day, just as my colleague wouldn't settle in the Crossfire. The Nissan is the track car, the Crossfire is the fast continent eater. Plus I can drop the top during the occasional sunny day - and that's priceless!
A guy has an Audi 225 TT at our company and again it's a fast car, its interior puts the Nissan and the Crossfire to shame, but it just lacks the involving drive in my opinion. I also tried the S2000 and disliked it as a car, but loved it as a little racer!
What my colleague with the 350z and I agree on is both cars are better than we are as drivers at the moment - we really need to get to know them to get the best out of them - we both have a terrific drive to work - twisty country lanes mixed with longish straight 'b' roads, and neither of us has yet even started to tap the potential in the wee beasties! I've had one pretty scary experience so far on a road covered in cow muck - the following corner seemed to have every wheel going in opposite directions - how I'll get on during the winter is anyone's guess - I crashed a Land Rover into a drystone wall during last year's limited snow!

Ditto on the driving skills. Slippery slope all this, next I will need a proper track car, Caterham with one of those bike engines...

Interesting thing I although can't fully stretch the XF I know some of its limitations and can understand how an experienced driver might want more.

Cow muck on the road, that one "law of nature" the owners manual didn't particularly mention! My wife and I have a Freelander for winter etc, permanent 4x4 (and reduced power) do the job of keeping us on the road well! Wife was really into the Freelander but since we got the XF she does complain the 4x4 "wallows" in the corners, did suggest she slow down!
