Default Question for current owners

Hi, Guys , looking at a few Xfires, all convertible. I am semi-handy, can do most things myself. I have a question about current values.

2005 Limited Roadster, supposedly 9/10 exterior, 10/10 interior, owned by former repair shop owner. Red with a new black top, new tires all around, and new "computer", he thinks ECM, needs to be initialized, says stereo does not work so needs the same, drives it all over SE Texas 3 days a week, high mileage at 150k, was asking $6500, down to $5500. I offered him $4k'ish, he said no way, the top and tires cost that much. The miles really worry me, as that to me is max value on this car, if I wanted to sell it I would never get anywhere near that, even in perfect condition.

2007 Black w/ Gray interior , standard, looks almost perfect but has salvage title due to water leak in rear trunk ruining some top components, asking $8200 but taking all offers. I am unsure about the salvage title and how much it drops value, but I would not consider anything over $6k-not too much more and I could be looking @ MB SLK 350's, which def have a higher resale value.

One thing I have noticed is these Xfires seem to really stick on the market for a awhile, even priced cheaply. I made an offer on a 2005 that has some issues, they wanted $4k 2 months ago, I offered $2k, he said no it was his daughters and had sat there for a year, was not even running. I told him to ask her about $3k, he said she said no less than $3500. Too much, sine it wont start, has a hit in the left fender to be repaired, etc.

So it seems you are looking to pick up a project car, cheap. They can be found. Prices will be all over the map on such cars, because you will find owners who are tired of trying to get it fixed, tired of looking at a non-running car, and "just want it gone"; they will take your low-ball offer. Then you'll find other owners who know there is still value in the car and are holding out for more than you want to pay.

Just keep looking at Craigslist (I use SearchTempest to search CL around whole country) and you will get an idea of prices.

I would avoid salvage titles, even they claim just leakage. Too many hurricanes through the south in the last 16 years.

If you want a project car with very high miles, you might find one in the $2k range. A well-maintained XF can go 200-300k miles with that 3.2 engine.

If you are willing to pay a bit more, say $5-8k, you can find much lower mileage examples with most accessories working. Hell, I have 50k on my roadster and 40k on m SRT6 and everything works on both.

~ After reading this thread, and considering the 05 Roadster that I am about to part with, made me realize that I will have to replace (send to Klaus for rebuild)) the two leaking main lifting cylinders of the top. Anyone interested in a convertible certainly doesn't want ANY issues with the top if I want to get my asking price. Why the SLK's are bringing more money is a mystery to me. Crossies are more rare and more stylish in my opinion.
~ Concerning salvaged titles,(flood damage) with a good thorough inspection and knowledge of these cars of what failures occur when water gets in, some good buys can be had without worries.
~ I'll repost the 05 roadster for salewhen the lifting cylinders are done. Pics of it are in the old sales thread.

THe 2005: I can't make sense of what is supposed to be wrong with a car that "needs the ECU programmed" when the car is being driven every day. And top and tires do not cost $4000, but even so - personally, I'd not go over $4500 for a car with those miles.

The 2007: Sounds like a base model, and with a salvage title and issues, it's no $6000 car, that's for sure.

Agree with pizza guy, there are nice crossfires out there, just spend some time looking. Lots of good sources, be patient. It helps to view the ads which will show the market average.

With a name like turbojarhead, you should get a turbo'd Crossfire!
Runs, drives, 6 speed. Fly into Tucson and drive it home! $4,000

I have a 2005 six speed needs nothing, has 117k miles, black with black all badges have been changed to Mercedes logo. The car is garage keeps and covered. Has SRT wheels that have been powered coated black to match the car. The car is a 9 out of 10. Very fast . If you are interested send me your phone number and I will send you some pictures. The car has also been critic coated.
