Didn’t see any aluminum ring but then again my canvas too is in perfect condition. Nothing hanging, no separation, the window just looked like it dropped straight down off the top, one morning.
so we followed the glue back on(windo weld) instructions of the first guy (tig###), combined with your visual clamp images and I think, so far so good. Going to touch up around the exterior perimeter to put a black bead of urethane around the whole edge
i did buy something else I recommend everyone use who does this ( $6 on Amazon for several). Tiny tiny bottles with needle small nozzles you can cut to size. Fill with the windo weld and a MUCH MUCH MUCH cleaner and simpler application than the “flat head screw driver”, and spread it around method.
highly recommend nitrile gloves for handling the glass also.
Again though, if the top itself wasn’t in absolute pristine condition I would have just bit the bullet and spent the $1500 for the new top. This was unfun. Lol
worked like a charm, first go round. Numerous open and closes executed flawlessly and all still snug as a bug. Washed it, including the top. No leaks at all. Just need to clean off the little excess spooge droppings.
thank you to all who provided valuable info. Thank you also to those who provided info on what a bad idea it was to do. THAT information helped me seriously re-think several approaches and ultimately to first go success.
p.s. I saw back a ways in the forum someone who mentioned a top replacement someone purchased where the window sat in a little pocket and came with a lifetime warranty. I would be VERY interested in hearing more about this. If this fails again, THAT is the direction to take. Any help in obtaining that information would be lovely.

Cheers. 😁
I have the top with sewn in window with defroster. It's from EZ ON and is a bout $500.00 more than a BAS top. Luckily for me, my top was replaced before I bought the car.
