Extended Warranty
Re: Extended Warranty
Yes we noticed that in the brochure and then again on the window sticker. However, the finance guy offered us an extended warranty. We haggled some on the price and got him to drop it some more. He insisted "ALL" '05 Chryslers had a 7/70 powertrain...we knew better on the SRT6 but didn't dispute him since we did ask "are you sure"...and quietly took his extended warranty at the price he was offering. We are suppose to have bumper to bumper coverage for 7/70K miles now.

Re: Extended Warranty
We got the warranty (Maximum Care, there are others that have lesser parts/service coverage or higher deductibles) when we bought our Crossfire SRT-6 coupe. Parts are expensive and even the E-19 recall part (fan control module) took a week or so to ship in. Affects all 23,700 Crossfires made. So, we got a free rental car the whole week, part of Maximum Care.. Even oil changes you can ask for a rental car... There are 2 other plans, but we went with 7/70K Max Care at around $1800 cost. That was in February 2006 for a Crossfire SRT-6 coupe that had been on their lot for 535 days.

Re: Extended Warranty
Got my SRT6 a few weeks back and insisted on the 7/100 extended. Even covers hotel/roadside/towing/rental reimbursement should one of our vacations be 'interrupted' by mechanical failure of any kind (up to $2,000 I think per incident.)
This is complete bumper-to-bumper (minus standard wear parts [wiper blades, bulbs, tires, break pads, etc.], paint and trim) over and above the 7/70 on the powertrain. Even covers a wheel if I blow a tire and ruin it.
Also, the standard factory 3/36 includes a complimentary (no charge) loaner/rental with ANY scheduled maintenance/warranty work.
I feel I was not ripped off since this all came in for under $2,000 in our financing.

Re: Extended Warranty
I've been looking at the extended warranties for some time now, and with
34,958 miles on the SRT-6, and my plan to drive it until the wheels fall off,
I went ahead and took the plunge. I talked to every dealer in my area, and
was able to find what I thought was a reasonable price. I got the 7/100
max care for $2,130. I was told that cost to the dealer was $2,130, when
I went to my current dealership and asked them to match the price I had
been given by one of their competitors.
Looking at the prices others have paid, I feel like this was probably a
good deal. And, for my purposes, I believe it to be a money well spent.

Re: Extended Warranty
Ya Coyote, with 35K miles on that SRT-6, I'm surprised that they would write up a 7/70 policy on it. Check the details though as they will try to nickel and dime you every step of the way. If it's the "true" Maxi-Care for 7/70 bumper-to-bumper that covers some 8,000 parts (which no doubt started from your "in-service" date, not the date you took the policy --- which is the big screw job on it I'm sure), then that sounds decent. Best to check that "in-service" date though. If you've had the car for 18 months and they base the coverage on in-service date, they screwed you for those 18 months... Even on new SRT-6, they call it the "7/70" which is bullshit since you already get a 3/36... They should call it the 4/40 "extension" since that's all you are really getting... So you are paying roughly $500 a year for those 4 extra years beyond the end of the basic 3/36 coverage... One mishap on an SRT-6 EASILY hits $500 though... That's why we got ours... A fricken plastic **** on the SRT-6 runs $500... and tack on another $100 for labor for a certified technician to push the **** on with well-groomed and manicured fingers.

bumper to bumper. And, yes, I knew going in that the coverage starts
at the "in-service" date, and I don't expect that I'll get 7 years out of it,
but I do expect to get about 65,000 miles worth of coverage out of it. In
just over 25 months, I'm pushing the 36,000 mile mark, and looking at
the cost of repairs, I felt this was a smart move.
As far as I know, you can purchase this contract right up until the 35,999
mile mark, but not after the original warrant has expired. And for my
peace of mind, $2k is a small amount to pay to know that a blown seal
or a transmission problem, or nearly any other mechanical problem will
be covered, and that I won't be shelling out multiple thousands of dollars
to repair the car. Hell, replacing the radio would probably cost more in
parts and labor than what I've paid for this warranty.
I do not intend to ever sell this car, so I feel I'm protecting my pocket
while protecting my ride.
