Default IR port on the key FOB

Does anyone know what the IR window is for on the SRT 6 key?

The key manufacture makes keys for a lot of German cars. Our Crossfire uses RF. M-Bs in the past have used IR with this style key. My guess is it does nothing. I doubt there is even an emitter (LED?) behind the red lens.

Did you try pressing the unlock button once and holding if for a few seconds the 2nd time?

its just an LED indicator for our cars. it flashes very dimly when you press the lock/unlock buttons. its also used to indicate a switch between the two unlock modes -- hold the lock and unlock buttons for about 3 or 5 seconds --

(1) first push, drivers door only. second push, passenger door, trunk, fuel door.
(2) first push, both doors, trunk, fuel door.

Just as a side note...if you want to see whether an IR LED (normally invisible to the human eye) is actually switching on, look at it through a video/digital camera, they are sensitive to that part of the spectrum and you will see it light up.
