Collectibility in the numbers
I own an SRT-6 Roadster and was starting to wonder about the collectibility of the car.
I was wondering if anyone has production numbers on the SRT-6 Roadsters broken out by color options, etc...
I guess I watch too much of the Barrett Jackson reruns on Speed channel, but it would seem that the limited production numbers of the SRT-6 and the Roadster in particular would make it an excellent car for a budding collector.

What we do know:
2,944 SRT6s produced worldwide.
2,016 SRT6 Coupes
928 SRT6 Roadsters.

I may soon start a thread for all SRT6 owners to unite and pound DCX with production information requests.

One thing you just can not seam to second guess is the value down the road for a car, not to mention you have to wait 20 years for it choose what way it will go...
Now we can hope that it just sustains its value at a good value... if you look at the prices of the last year of the RX7 its still big bucks to buy one and not even close to being considered a collectors item...
Low quantities is a good thing too but not a guarantee to high value on anything later...lots of car examples of that out there, not to mention these stinking PeeWee herman dolls I have!!

Although I would agree that it is hard to determine the value of a car before 20+ years, if any trends in collector car trading have shown us, ANYTHING will be valuable if it is a real production car with very limited build numbers. Cars like the Bricklin, Bitter, Delorean, or Merkur will probably never be collectibles because although they were build in limited numbers, they weren't good vehicles to begin with. Contrast that with vehicles like the Buick GNX, Third Generation RX7s, and last model Toyota Supras and even VW Phaeton which were all produced in limited numbers due to one reason or another. They were cars that people wanted but were just priced either out of reach (GNX) or just too high for their core Audience (Phaeton, Supra, RX7).

I think the SRT6 roadster will probably bring the most money in terms of collectability, but I wouldn't expect much in terms of resale value for at least another 20 years or so. In that time who knows if they'll even make parts for the crossfire lol.
The srt6 might eventually become as rare as a twin turbo Supra, now I'm curious as to what those production numbers where? On that note I hear toyota is thinking about bringing the beast back in 2009-10.
