Getting the hang of my SRT
I had some free time late yesterday afternoon and took the opportunity to do some driving on a 15 mile loop of winding and well paved roads just west of Boston. I am familiar with these little used roads as I have practiced my motorcycle skills on them for the last couple of dozen years. I've had the SRT for over a month now, but have not had a chance to really play with it.
After several minutes of pushing 2nd and 3rd gear, I realized I was laughing. The SRT's handling hooks up really well using throttle control, and I never got the car to where it felt like I would loose traction. (I did forget to try it without the stability control though). While others had talked about the supercharger kicking in the high 2,000 RPM range, I find that mine comes on at just under 4k... I had no problem at all with manual gear selection, as I was fairly careful with my engine speed. I didn't want to be spinning so fast that downshifting wouldn't engage due to over revving.
I was initially concerned that the Crossfire was a bit more of a highway cruiser than at home on the two lane roads I prefer. It felt bigger and appeared to give less road feedback than the old Porsche 944 I had previously enjoyed. However, I have to say that the SRT appears to be a better handling car than my Porsche and is a lot more responsive. I don't know how predictable or controllable it will be as traction is lost, but it's pretty darn fun up until that point. I am really glad to have this car! Hope you all have as much fun as I did, and I really enjoy the forum.
Best,
Ben

Ben,
I would have to agree... the SRT6s LOVE the twistys and turns. Having been to the track twice and pushing the car pretty hard (kept the TC on) I can say it does very well indeed and I felt the 'Feel' for the pavement while pushing it was much better than just daily driving.
I hope to one day achieve a level where I feel confident enough to take the TC off on a road course AND keep my current record of NOT spinning out.

Glad to hear that you liked the drive/ride.
I took mine out on about a 240 mile trip around one of the Great Lakes up here this weekend. It was pretty nice and that's the furthest trip it has been on. I was amazed that I remained comfortable for that long.
And it handled the curves VERY well. Didn't see another Crossfire, but saw plenty of Solstices, and even a snooty SLK 320 driver who turned his nose at my car - oh if he only knew - or maybe he did -

I'm glad y'all feel the same as I do. While I see a few Crossfires around Boston, I think I've seen one SRT convertible, no coupes like mine. When I was a kid, my dad had small english sports cars, and if you passed someone with the same marquee, you'd wave to each other. I have an old Corvette, and sometimes guys will respond to the wave. I put up a hand to the one Crossfire that I passed while driving mine, but got nothing back. I'll keep trying though, because it's fun to share the feeling this car puts out.
Best to all,
Ben
