Default Black Wing

Has anyone considered painting their wing black?

I have an Aero Blue with 35% tint and black centered 19" / 20" Lowenhart LD5's. I think a black wing will complete the whole set-up.

Any opinions?

SRT SIX,
How much would it cost the SRT-6 wing in black carbon fiber?

L=49 x W=7.5 x .50 cents = ****. Am I correct?

I think it would be hot especially since you have a chrome grille. Good luck with your decision and get ready for the nay sayers. LOL.

I've thought about putting a carbon fiber look for the wing a long time ago. At the time, I didn't know of any place where I can get a sheet of CF to mold to the existing wing. I actually like the shape of it so i wanted to do that instead of replacing with an aftermarket CF wing.

Woody had suggested at the time to inquire with a boat builder to get a custom fiberglass w/ CF wing in the shape of the existing wing. Too much hassle for me.

But I would suggest the same to you, if you are looking for a total wing replacement. You just should make sure though that your custom wing is functional especially if you drive at high speeds.

I have a black car and intend paint the top of the car in a Black Cherry Red. I think that I will follow the body lines from below the head light out to the edge line on the top of the fenders including the hood, roof, windshield trim, grill and wing. I have been working it over and think that i will trim (pin stripe) the color division line in Silver to match the door handles.

I think that this car begs for sportification and changing the wing color is a great start. If you had a silver car I may have swapped wings with you and changed my paint plan.

Because the wing is not square you have to figure differently. The CF overlay only comes in rectangular sheets. It must be laid out carefully and you can't "bend" it as a result there will be "dead space". You have to create a large rectangle that will fit most of the wing. I did this then added the square for the "winglets" on the forward edge of each side. This only takes into account the top. If you want the whole wing (top and bottom less the cylindrical posts connecting them to the car) you will have to also consider thickness.

Top alone = 47" X 9" = 423
winglets top = 7" x 6" =42 x2 = 84
total top =507" X .5 = $253.50

Double that for top and bottom. $507

These are forum member prices ONLY! I am working on a website where the prices will be higher (need to make a profit there!)

Not bad at all if it's durable enough from the heat and rain (though mine stays more in the garage) and could last years without peeling off!

So far the finish has been very durable. My underhood temps are very high now that the outside temp has been over 100 degrees here in "Death (Rancho Cucamonga) Valley" California. The Windshield header still looks new. If anything it appears to be more durable than the original paint on the car. The finish is hard but almost feels cushioned.

I think I am going to do my grill next week. Will take pics and post when done.

How about painting the wing black up to the lines only to give a continuous triangular flow in the rear coming from the dark liftgate window?
