Trans and Windscreen
Ok, so starting out in regular auto mode, just after the car starts moving, it "clunks" into gear. Not an audible clunk, but a feel. It's moving, so it must be in gear already. It may be prematurely shifting into second gear? Whatever it is it just doesn't feel right to me. The dealer said it's normal. This is my first automatic, so I'm not 100% used to the car yet. Everything is smooth when manually shifting though. The car has 11,000 miles on it. Ideas?
Also, my windshield looks like it was sand blasted when the sun is direct. It totally sucks, anyone have this issue or had one replaced under warranty?

Might go away with fresh tranny fluid. Run the carfax to see if the car was leased/used in a high sand area like Phoenix... Freeway driving and lots of particles = small pits that show up when the sun shines on the windshield at certain angles.

What your feeling in the transmission is normal. I get the same thing when pulling away from a stop at low speed. If I "Goose" of the line or shift manually, it doesn't do it. I think its the nature of the beast. Someone else correct me if I'm wrong. If it isn't normal, its at least a common problem.
We've been over the windshield thing, I'm at a lose on that one. Hopefully that Glass polishing kit you ordered will work. Let us know.

Thanks once again NeverEnough. Mine does exactly that. Pulling away slowly, I feel it. If I goose it, smooth and normal. Weird. That's why I never had automatics, I like shifting my cars.

It isn't a BMW SMG tranny, but it works pretty damn well. Hell, as smart as the ECU is, it does a pretty good job of keeping up and holding higher gears through turns even in DRIVE, without shifting manually. If you haven't driven an SRT-6, don't lump it in with all the other Wanna-Be manumatic slush boxes out there.
Would a 6-Speed be a better choice? Maybe, but this one still does a good job when and where it's needed.

Although I do prefer manual trans, this one is quite good in manual mode. It doesn't upshift until nearly redline.
have you tried that reset trick?
from what i've been reading it has drive by wire and it might be expecting you to do something else when you're coming off the line and gets caught off guard.
seems like a pretty easy quick fix for a lot of things, and even if it doesn't work only takes a min. to do.
i'm not sure on the exact sequence but give it a search. it consists of key in (turned to on position), hold the throttle, key turned to off position and wait a certain amount of time before removing it i believe.
