Default My intake setup(Finished!!, Pics on pg3)

Since my intercooler project ran into a snag I decided to press on with the cold air project. After calling around town to a bunch of places I found no one had a 3" mandrel bender like I was told, so I decided to use a 45 rubber elbow and make it work. This is what it looks like so far. I'm gonna get it powder coated black and get rid of the blue elbow (sent the wrong one). I'm using the new AEM dryflo filter, no oil needed, better flow and filtration. Had to make a little bracket so I could relocate one of the horns to make room for the filter. I haven't had the chance to test it yet, because they sent me the wrong size elbow.

Looks great. What did you use to go thru the support brace? It looks like black rubber?

Thanks, looks rough right now IMO, but once I get it powder coated it should look alright. It's a 3" x 6" piece of silicone, but I'm going to replace it with a 10" piece. Right now it's a little too short and I can't get a hose clamp in there.
To put it all together, I just bought some 3" aluminum sections and cut them to fit. I honestly lost track of the cost due to parts arriving daily for this and my intercooler project, but after I get it powder coated the total cost will probally be $200-$225.

that's nice. i wanted to go all silicone but it is expensive as you can see. a rubber 90 and 45 are a lot more cost effective.

I ordered from various places and ebay, but after ording the 24" straight piece I found you can get all your piping from them for under $75 shipped.
http://www.courtesyparts.com/sr20det/index.html

This is where I ordered my 45 elbow and silicone from.
http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/mer...egory_Code=SC4

I found the 6" silicone to be a bit short so I will be ordering a 10" section. Found one on ebay for $47 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA:IT&ih=024

The filter was purchased off ebay for $50.

I also purchased the short bend radius off ebay, but it was the wrong color and size.

So I am going to order a Spectre racing 3"to3" shortradius 90 and it comes with two hose clamps. Part# 8791
http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.8791

So like I said depending on your materials and cost, it will run you $200-$225, plus a little more if you get it powder coated.

WOW! - that's 1/2 the price of a Needswings and $100 less then an OEM SL55 setup.

Great job and nice write-up!!

Thanks!
The only thing I'm not sure on is the breather hose. Don't know if I should tap the intake tubing or just put a filter on it? I guess the right thing to do would be to tap it. Any suggestions? Also need to get some hose clamps.

I would tap into the intake for the crankcase breather.

You should see if you can make some sort of cosmetic cover where the stock air filters went and reuse the OEM engine cover. Just for looks without spending much $$.

Other things I forgot to mention,
behind the grill is a hard line, think it's for the AC, that must be unbolted and pushed back to make room for the filter, plus you must relocate one of the horns to the drivers side.

Second the silicone hose is conformed to an oval shape where it passes through the radiator area, don't think it will be a problem or cause much restriction because it is still the same 3" but in an oval shape.

Thank's ! Glad I could help, I don't want to say I stole any ideas from people on this forum, but I have been inspired by them. Your setup is a bit more skillfully crafted and very clean looking, so I'm sure it will be nice when complete.

Very nice intake! If you or anyone is in need of bends, elbows, and Misc. pieces to piece an intake together let me know. I buy things in fairly large quantities and can more then likely get you a better price.

Pm or email me.

I Would like to have my car back together by next weekend so I can do some testing. So I just ordered the spectre 90 elbow from Jegs.
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_813720_-1
and a 10" silicone piece off of ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-R...QQcmdZViewItem

now I just have to come up with a solution for the breather hose and it should be good to go.

I just put a small breather filter on mine worked just fine, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-V...spagenameZWD1V
they are cheaper then that you just have to search around. Helps with the hassell of tapping into the intake and runing a tube. Looks good though I really like it can you feel a difference?

I haven't been able to test it yet, because my current 90 and silicone sleeve are a little too small.

Not bad. Everything you have described is EXACTLY how the NeedsWings intake is setup, right down to the Power Steering Cooling Line and horn braket. Not bad for the money. I went with the Needswings setup for alot of reason though. I didn't have time to figure it all out myself and wait for parts to come in from all over. At the time I found the Extra $$$ of teh NeedsWings setup worth it to me in the time and R&D saved. Good juob though. I might have gone that route had you figured it out before now.
