Had it done to mine for $80 which was a bargain compared to other guys spending up to $250 or so. Basically, cheaper jobs like mine just used lower grade aluminum piping rather than pricey stainless steel. I couldn't be happier with the sound I got with mine. Sounds nice and deep compared to stock and I get a sexy crackle every now and then when I get out of the gas or gear down. Not ricey at all. Actually I thought it might sound like a honda or something, so I got a friend to do a few passes in front of me. All I can say is damn, I like it a lot.

The car does sound better & I think it actually gains a few ponies in the mid and top range. I got mine done for $140, but it was done in all stainless parts.

Aluminum wont weld to steel, i assume they used mild steel vs stainless. Aluminum is very seldom used for exhaust, almost never.

He likely meant aluminized steel...not aluminum.

You're likely right. Good catch, it was aluminized steel piping I had put on. Sometimes I just get so excited to tell people about the car that I leave little details out.

Hope he doesn't go and ask for aluminum to be used on his car...

I havent found a shop that can weld the stainless parts in my area yet. I may go with the aluminized steel. Did you have this painted with silver heat paint, or just leave it bare? I was thinking the weld would be good painted. Comments?

If you dont drive in the snow/salt, I wouldn't hesitate for the aluminized. Most OEM exhausts are aluminized and they last 10+ years with no coatings and no salty environments.

With that said, the original exhaust is stainless so I would likely keep looking. You may have to go to a metal fabricator in lieu of an exhaust shop. Also look at any 18-wheeler mechanics in the area as a lot of them use S.S.

If you do aluminized, the welder will likely coat the weld with a primer/sealer to prevent oxidation. If not, request it - but I wouldn't worry too much about the rest of the exhaust as most spray-on stuff is temporary at best.

Damn, I want to get mine done on Thursday. The problem is either the shop is affraid to touch it or they want a gajillion dollars to do it... I'd LOVE to pay someone $125 to do, having it done for $40 would be like winning the lottery.
