Default Question for SRT owners

For no other reason than to satisfy my own curiosity, I am asking SRT6 owners " If the SRT6 was offered with the choice of either Automatic or 6 speed" How many would have opted for the 6 speed manual ?
I know that the SRT6 is a beast and that the Automatic mates up beautifully to it and probably does a better job of shifting than I ever could, but I am kind of set in my ways and I really enjoy shifting gears in my Crossfire, to me that is half the fun.
I grew up on muscle cars and they all had 3 pedals.
And yes I would love to have a 6 speed SRT6

I think the SRT 6 would be a blast to try out with a 6 speed. But there is no need to speed to much time thinking about it.

It's pretty safe to say that nearly every person who looked into buying an SRT kinda did the "ohhhh...that kinda sucks..." line once they found out that it was only offered in autostick. On the other hand, now that I have it, I have no doubt that it is the right transmission for the car. It is especially good for me being in downtown Atlanta with stop and go traffic all the time; I'd ruin a clutch every year driving a 6 speed.

isn't the auto stick in our SRT-6 a racing transmission, or designed by a race team.

I have no problem with the auto. I shift it like a standard when I want and let it go when I am feeling lazy.

When we bought our first Crossfire ('04 limited), we were shopping for an automatic specifically. After owning that one for a while and watching the prices on the SRTs fall, we had to have one. After driving the limited with the auto-stick, I had no issues buying the SRT with the same configuration.

Now, with that said, I would've likely bought a manual tranny car vs. an auto tranny car if it was an option.

I don't race or drag but do enjoy the miles and miles of twisties we have around here. Would've been manual if it were an option.

I love the autostick and would have still bought it if they had offered the manual.

At first I was turned off by the Automatic, as my last 7 cars were manuals, but I liked the car enough to get over it. Now that I've lived with it for a while, I think it was the right choice. I think the car would have been a little too brutal with a clutch that could hold that kind of power. In everyday driving the auto is your friend and allows you to cruise around like an Imperial when you want. It reacts VERY quickly and has some intelligence to it. It actually downshift into sharp sweeping turns and holds the gear FOR EVER! Even in full automatic mode, I find myself having to manually calm it down after a foot to the floor passing manuver. It holds 3 rd gear for about 20-30 seconds, waiting for you get back into it. It def. well sorted for high performance drivers. In manual mode, it isn't instantanious, but still quicker than I could clutch and yank. I've actually learned the transmission well enough that I can even rev match it on down shifts just like a manual. A couple of people i know actually thought it was a manual until recently, as I pull that rev match trick often.

Overall, I'm happy with it.

When I was looking at mine on the dealer lot I told the sales'kid' I was glad it had an auto. He is the one that told me it was the only way the SRT6 came.
I'm with R.S. in that 25 years ago a manual would have been an option.

Hmmm.
I prefer manual transmissions in sports cars, but:
This transmission is the best auto I've ever driven.
My wife can drive the SRT6, which is good - or bad.

I guess if they offered it with a manual, I would have gone that route, but this auto is OK with me.

For this car the automatic performs excellently. I wouldn't purchase it with a manual. I had a richmond 6 speed manual in my vette, and it was a fun car to drive, but quite a pain in the butt, especially in traffic. I like the automatic in the crossfire, wouldn't change it.

I am ALL about the manual. If one was available, I would NEVER have bought the auto.

I bought my roadster first because I wanted a convertible and a stick. If the SRT6 was available as a standard, I'd have one vehicle today....an SRT6 roadster with a stick.

Double-ditto. One less thing to have to do whilst driving. These are awesome automatics.

First and formost, I wanted the a vehical with power.
Secondly, I wanted a roadster. I would have liked to have had a manual, but I do remember when I had sticks, that there were a few times when I got tired of shifting. So when an SRT (at the time the only roadster in Florida) was at a dealer,Palm Automotive, in Punta Gorda I bought it in June of 06.

That same afternoon I test drove a 2006 Vette with a stick and one with an auto and an XF roadster limited roadster with an automatic.

The Vette was too fast. The limited not fast enough and the SRT was juuuuuuussssstttttt right. And I went all the way weeee weeeeee (rather quickly) home and had roast beef for dinner.

The rest is history. I frequently shift the auto as if it were a stick and downshift when I feel the need ...... Yep and when I really feel the need for speed....... I go to a Florida GTG ....March 15..in...New Symrna to race TOY around the track. LOL

Thanks for all the replys guys, I was just curious if this was as big a deal to other people as it is to me. I really enjoy the 6 speed and I live out in the middle of nowhere so shifting isn't really bothersome, let's just say Amish buggys are more a problem for me than city traffic. Although I am conviced that if I did get an automatic, this would be the one to get, I was just wondering how the breakdown would be between auto and manual if it were offered, but then again I have come to view the SRT as a $ 25,000 car as oppposed to the $50,000 car it was intended to be. And I suppose since very few of these were actually ordered by customers new, then most of the dealers would have opted for the automatic to sit on there lots.
