Default Selling daughters SRT to her for college

My daughter signed a letter of intent to attend Nova Southeastern University in south Florida. She is being given a full ride for track and cross country and academics. Bottom line I am saving $30K per year.

Yes, I am a very proud dad. She's already drives the XF everyday, but I keep kidding her that the funds that I have been saving for the past 10 years for college can be used to buy XF from me. Except she's not going for it though. She says she already has it and its already hers. What are you gonna do.

Lets see

SRT ... 25K
Cost 4 yrs college (saving) 120K

Looks like a fair deal to me!

Don't spend the money you saved.....you'll need it when she gets married. Congratulations on her acceptance letter.

Congrats go out to Ashley for the college funds. Sounds like she already has a Crossfire, why would she need to BUY one!

Congrats, the is great. Now way back then. The same happened to me.
I received full ride track scholarship. I asked my Dad for the cash since he
didn't have to pay. He thanked me for helping out!! After graduation,
I received a bill from my father for any expense above what was
agreed to. I paid my debt. What a valuable life lesson. You, at least, desire to take a great vacation for the sacrifices you made.

That is what I said to the wife when we were speaking to the Director of Admissions. When Ashley leaves we would be traveling. She said what about the dog. My response was that Ashley's only 30-45 minutes away she can watch Kody on the weekend. Her reponse was " weekend isn't long enough. TOUCHE.

Congrats to your daughter! I can only hope that I am a parent that is capable of helping my kids due the same if/when they need it...

I sure wish my parents had planned better for me!

I guess there are two ways to do it - "Do as I say, not as I do."

Randy,

I remember you took some flack when you first said you got the car for your daughter. there was a lot of "...too much power for someone so young..."

What is the saying "...with great power, comes great responsibility..." Sounds like you have a great daughter who has a great father. Congrats to you both!

Screw that! I might help my kid buy an economy car if they need transportation. Beyond that, Daddy's hard earned money is for Daddy's toys.

Randy/Ashley,

Congrats to the both of you. Nova is a great school and a decision that will never be regretted.

And I agree with the comment about keeping the $$$ for the wedding. She is too beautiful not to have that 'million dollar wedding' you know that you are going to have to prepare for....

Congrats to you!!!!!! I had 2 in college at the same time(1 year apart) offered to buy them a BMW convert, (pre Crossfire days) to come to UVA - in state. So I paid the out of state, and private after +$200,000 no regrets - they are good kids, and isn't it our job to build the best foundation for them?

Alot of my friends think I'm nuts for paying - but oh well it's done
congrats to your daughter for the full ride - mine ran X-country for years and ran for Univer. of Iowa. didn't get any $ my the pride factor - pricelss

Karl... That is a Very True Statement, a bit of flack might be a slight underestiment. All in all, she has done very well this past year.
