Default 2nd times a charm, Joined the 12 Sec club tonight

The track was packed and I only got the chance to run two passes. I pussied out and launched off idle just to see how it felt on the bias ply ET Streets. I managed a 12.9 and a 12.8. If I stalled it up and launched a little harder I think she could have gone 12.50s. Temps were in the 60's but the car quickly heated up while waiting to stage. I think with peoples recent track experiences the conclusion can be drawn that our cars are very heat tempermental. I don't forsee anyone running 11's unless they have some serious cooling mods, ie; N20, Meth, Heat exchanger or ambient temps in the 40's.

The numbers

60'.....1.928
330....5.436
1/8....8.317
MPH...84.87
1000..10.811
1/4....12.894
MPH...106.45

60'.....2.028
330....5.525
1/8....8.372
MPH...91.59
1000..10.831
1/4....12.911
MPH...106.59

My custom 3" intake
Cutouts, closed on launch, opened at top of first gear.
IN Motion tune, I think it may be running rich because my tail pipes are real black since the tune.
17x9 Voxx wheels with 17x11.5x26 Bias ply ET Street
Leaking DIY intercooler resivourReally need to clean this up so I can fill it with dry ice next time.

I would think with et streets you would have 1.8 or faster 60' times. Your 1/8 mile trap speeds are fantastic, especially the 91.59mph. The 1/4 mile trap speed seems really low compared to your 1/8 mile times. It appears the car is pulling timing due to intake temps. Alcohol injection would really be a benefit for you there.

yeah, the car definitely does not seem to running at full potential and trapping low. I don't know if it's the cutouts making it lean, the heat or too rich of a tune. Hopefully I can get a hold of that wideband soon. As far as the 91 in the 1/8 I was thinking that may have been a sensor problem, becasue that's quite a jump from 84.

There's definitely something wrong going on, people are running better times with just an intake. I would think you would be running better times with the mods you have installed. Maybe you need a custom tune instead of a box tune?

I spoke with IN motion today, and he said the tune should be fine for my elevation and mods. I told him how I think I'm running rich and my tail pipes are black(looked at my cutouts today and they are completely black as well). He advised I get a wideband or even a narrow band and let him know how it goes. I'm trying to get a dual wideband off my friend, but I might just see if my other friend can hook his laptop with wideband up so we can see what's going on.

What is your elevation. Where I run my car it's about 700ft. James tuned mine for use with my water/meth or race fuel. It has been to cold to ever have to use the meth, but with his tune and cold air kit I ran 12.45 @111.09. I have just completed another mod that won't use the water/meth. I will be testing on the track next sunday if the weather holds.

Our track is at 250ft. I was honestly expecting some 110 traps after seeing your times, but the warmer weather could be my problem or any combination of things I mentioned. Wasn't it like 40deg when you ran? Are your tips covered in soot by chance?

Yes, they are a little blk on the bottom, but nothing to bad.

I did some data logging with my tune in 60. weather and without the meth the knock sensors were showing under full throttle a bit. There was nothing when I sprayed the meth. But when it gets colder out, below 50 I dont need the meth with the cold air kit sucking from the grill.

Talk to James and see if he can give you the same tune as mine after you get some meth injection.

Well I was thinking if I am running rich then I'm ready for the Code3 pulley when it comes out, but I def. need a wideband to keep an eye on things before and after I put one on. I guess your custom tune really helps. Realistically I could have went 12.5-12.6 if I actually launched the car, just didn't have the ***** the first two times or a chance for another run. Launching off idle could also be the casue for the low traps as well. There are so many factors to consider but in the end I'm not happy about the low traps at all. Oh well, enough bitching, guess I just need to get some gauges before any more mods, so I can keep an eye on things and data log my passes.
Good luck with your new mod. Not willing to share it with us yet?

I bought a Innovative LC-1 for $199, wired it up to a cig. lighter plug from an old cell phone charger cable and I can hook up my wideband in anyones car in 5 minutes, plug it in my laptop and tune(with fuel tuner) and monitor a/f ratios. It works fantastic.

Congrats on getting into the 12's. Wow, I'm jealous of your tracks elevation. You and bikecop will have awesome runs once your weather is perfect. It's getting warm here already. My car is back to normal, and ran a 12.54 today. It was 73 degrees and my elevation is 1240 feet. That would have been a low 12.3 or better at your track. My track however had great track prep today. I just wish it was 20 degrees colder and I could have really put down the numbers. Six runs were 12.969,12.548,12.621,12.671,12.762, 12.804. It was getting colder towards the last runs but the car wasn't getting any cooler. I should dry ice the sc in between runs, but don't want to risk dripping on the track and getting kicked off. Dang new 08' vette (not a zo6) was running 12.23 all night on street tires. I ran him and he still caught me on the top end. Old guy said it was completely stock. No exhaust or anything the eye could see. Seen a few, and never seen one be that fast and consistent. My best 60' of the day was 1.864.
Here's my breakdown of the run
reaction .079
60'------1.884
1/8------8.105
1/8 mph--86.825
1/4------12.548
1/4 mph--111.892

Nice times! You just have intake and drag radials right? We had a cold front move in tonight and the temps went from upper 70's yesterday to 40's tonight. The car was running strong again so I guess that was my problem last night, just got heat soaked in the pits combined with the warmer ambient temps. I raced a modded STI from a roll, left it in D, punched it on third honk, 2 sec delay for downshift and SC engagement then the STI quickly dissapeared in the rearview. He was impressed, but to his defense he had two passengers and he and I both know those cars aren't good from a roll, but neither is the SRT-6 IMO. I would have raced him from a stop but we didn't get a chance, maybe next time. I was just glad to experience the fun factor of the car again. I guess when summer hits I'm gonna have to ride my bike if I want an adreniline rush, because with the heat and humidity the SRT will probally be like driving an NA model.

I'm thinking you might want to invest in larger HE and pump so heat won't be as much of a factor. I'm planning on running an alcohol injection too to try keep temps down this summer. I'm thinking with all three (HE,pump, alcohol) the car should run like a beast all year round.

I have a johnson pump with a temporary tank, but the fluid was low and might have had some air the system. I topped it off last night and like I said it was running like a champ. I really like the Code3 resivour with Odessey battery and look forward to the release. That with a bigger HE would be a real clean setup compared to what I have now.

I also have the 178 asp pulley setup. No tune yet and don't think I will get it. The extra tenth I'll get it on a cool night. Not looking for 11's yet, but under 12.5 will be the next bet with my current setup. The dr's do help, but I think with a custom tune I would get more out of my pulleys. Waiting to get more miles. Only at 2500 so far. I was running low 12.7's with the stock conti's and no pulley. So 2 tenths could of been from the DR's, mph is the biggest increase with the pulleys. I won't be cutting my exhaust just yet either. I'm just going to take the heatsoak and adjust my time when I bracket.

You cannot be afraid of breaking things if you want to run good numbers. Get back out there and launch at 2200+RPMs and THEN you'll see the 60' and 1/4 mile times/traps you want.

True, true, I just pussied out I also found something out tonight while testing the cutouts. I found that just bumping the cutouts open a bit seemed to give a noticeable difference in power/acceleratrion over having them wide open/closed and little to no loss of torque on the bottom end. This is all according to the butt dyno , but I think I will run like this when it's time to race and def. have to try it at the track next time.

It's ok to take it easy, make sure your comfortable with your car and the track before you go all out. You may want to start with just launches, then 1/8 mile runs, and work your way to 1/4 mile passes. If you get squirley with all the power your going to be putting down you may need traction control to take over. You can also launch easy and then lay into it. Remember no one here is going to chip in for a front end if you wreck your car. Also the better the 60' time the lower trap speed you will have, but your et will also be lower. If you spin more, you will notice higher trap speed. I once ran in the 12.7's at almost 112. Good luck, have fun, but most of all be safe. It's why we go to the track and not the street, but it still can be dangerous.
