My first time at the drags
regardless it is all about having fun, if someone thinks their car is faster than it is then race them and show them so they can learn about it and get the mod bug and make it faster. if someone wants to race you and they are faster, who cares it is all about fun.

Unfortunately most people are looking for money races at this event (that's what this event is about and they actually discourage Test N Tune). He'd be much better off taking a trip out to Byron with us for a relaxing day of Test N Tune, rather than showing up at an event like this. I'm sure he also wouldn't mind the opportunity to pick Chi-Town SRT-6's brain about his mods at the same time since Abe's car runs pretty good.
Guys, lets not turn this into a big deal. Let me explain my thinking. GNXS I know what you are saying about the test and tune lanes (the long staging lanes), but every person in that lane that I had seen were pre arranged races. So if I were to enter the lanes I would offset everyones races, or have to wait for another lone racer to arrive and figure things out. That being said, I did not want to screw people over in the test and tune lanes by just driving up and screwing everyone else up. So that is why I figure I would go look for someone to race, each time I asked someone to race I did offer option of free, and as you know a free race would not have gone to the short staging lanes, so my intent was that was to go to the long ones. I don't remember once saying to anyone lets race for money and only money, I believe I would just say free or 20 dollars because some people did not want to race for free. I knew most of the races that I were trying to arrange were losing races for me, I wanted to race and I didn't want to inconvenience the entire long staging lanes, I know I was percieved as a noob and I do not care about that because I was having fun and I was doing what I needed to do to make some races. I don't care if it costed me 20 dollars to race or if it was free, I just wanted to race and I know that the SRT-6 is not the fastest car at the track and its not one to run around betting built camaros with or something, you could tell how little I cared about winning a race by how I openly would tell people my fastest time of the night if they asked. Honestly win or lose I did not care, I did not think someone would take offense at what I posted originally but I guess I apologize? That being said after the whole track experience I found there was tons about cars and drag racing that I did not know, which has me wanting to actually sell my SRT-6, get an old 66 mustang or maybe a 1970 cutlass that I have been looking at and really learn something about cars and the whole drag racing experience and what can be done with it, plus it would free up a hell of a high insurance payment and car payment. Maybe a little after getting an old car throw a crate motor in it and figure it all out. With all that said Abe I'd love to go to the track with you, I have been trying to get someone in the Illinois area to go with me, plus if I end up swapping cars it won't be any time soon.

As you found out, RSD is all about cash races and when you talk to them, every guy's car is broke, stock, slow, etc. when they're trying to get a race (nobody likes giving away money). As you found out, most are running at their peak and their tires, clutch, engine, etc. all seem to work fine during the race.
I typically go for TNT since they prep the track really well and I have a friend that gets into the money racing with his car and we like to go up and support him. Since it's not ready to run yet, he occasionally scopes out getting me a race and they bet on my car every once in a while.
Again, didn't mean to come off as a ****, but we're not used to anybody approching us that wasn't looking for a money race (AT THIS EVENT) and perhaps assumed that was your intention. The long staging lanes are for TNT at RSD, don't worry about screwing up somebody's race.
We usually race at Byron since GLD is a bit harsher and we don't have all the safety gear we need for our ETs there (except at RSD where the boards are off and they are a bit lax with tech). If you like, next time we head to Byron I'll have Abe (Chi-Town SRT-6) drop you an invite. You'll have a good time and the atmosphere is 100% different (relaxed/casual).
You can try and pick on our Cobras all day if you like.

You apparently know nothing about this track or this event. Both "Pinks" and "Pass Time" on Speed were piloted at this track and the atmosphere is similar. It's not like a TNT day at your average track.

Sorry GNXS. Maybe I just read your posts wrong, but you rubbed me the wrong way. My appologies for a calling you a *****. That was uncalled for. No, you're not his mother. I guess I'm just used to people being more helpful to the noobs at the track.

We obviously misunderstood (assumed) that he was only interested in racing for money. Like I said to Bobo, he's welcome to come to Byron with us and line me up all day long if he likes.

Hey gnxs you sound like a stand up guy to me. We have those type races at capitol raceway here in Md. also. If I did not know someone and/or didn't want to race them I would say no also. Since I drive a crossfire I get the invite from sentras, civics and the like. I'm not that interested in racing them either. You are at complete liberty to do YOUR thing and not there to satisfy anyone else! Thanks for coming on the forum and adding your 2 cents!!!!

I don't blame those guys' initial responses......My first few posts, drives a Cobra, me responding to a post, etc. That all usually adds up to a troll. Fortunately Abe a few others here know me. I actually registered to look up info on a guy that was buying a friend's crossfire SRT-6 (posted on the forums here) when I stumbled across this post.
Ironically, a quietly modded SRT-6 is actually probably a good car for that type of event, if the owner was good at "playing the game" (negotiating). The guys he went up to may have been verbalizing their fear of his car, but in reality I bet very few of them know what the car is really capable of. Throw in a nice hidden N20 kit on a pulleyed SRT-6 and most of them would never know that the car was capable of low 11's.
Maybe we'll take Abe's car up there, let one of our "negotiators" cry the blues about how slow it is and make some money with it.

Nothing like this at any of the tracks here. Glad to hear it's at the track. There are still alot of underground car clubs that run for money on the street. Unfortunately that's not going to stop, but getting better.

This is the same night Bobo54545 was at the track.
This is the $$$ race my friend set up late that night with my Cobra against a gutted, slicked, skinnied, trailered in, heads, cam LS1 camaro. His bottle wasn't working properly, so the race was negotiated him off the spray. After the lights went green, I had to wait for him to leave (gave the "hit"). As you can see by my reaction I wasn't expecting the Pro Tree and wasn't even on my two-step before he left. Still ran him down:

That's how it looks at GLD on an RSD night.

Even when they spot cars out, somebody stands at the line in the beams to activate the timers for the spotted out car. The timelip ET will be off, but it allows the finish line timing lights to still determine the winner (which prevents all the BS arguing, refusing to pay BS that would occur if a really close race had to be evaluated visually).

R/T: .679
60: 2.001
330: 5.538
1/8: 8.424
mph: 85.88
1000: 10.903
1/4 12.976
mph: 109.05
R/T: .673
60: 1.946
330: 5.458
1/8: 8.332
mph: 85.04
1000: 10.798
1/4 12.861
mph: 110.55
R/T: .712
60: 1.942
330: 5.458
1/8: 8.334
mph: 85.02
1000: 10.802
1/4 12.865
mph: 110.59
Then after those three runs I locked my car only to come back and have the doors not unlocking and found that my key wouldnt fit in the lock. About an hour later someone helped me fool with the lock enough only to find something had been shoved in there and we were able to break it apart and get the key in there. I'm not sure what was up with my alarm it kept going off for no reason and acting funny and not responding.
I raced the son of the guy who helped me get back into my car because I wanted to give them some money for helping me out but it ended up being a race for no money but we went heads up. He had an older cutlass with drag slicks and I'm not sure what was done to the engine but since neither of us knew they were starting it with a pro tree, it was a pretty lousy run with him winning at the end of course.
So after that I ran a couple other times, nothing too interesting since everyone is so afraid of losing I had to hand people some of the races for them to even agree to them but I didn't care it was my first time so I just wanted to get some runs in.
I raced a GTO with what the driver said had an exhaust, headers, and one other thing I can't remember but in reality when we pulled up to the line I could hear cams among other things. He gave me 1 1/2 lengths so I don't have a time slip that matters from the race but I lost.
Then got sick of being turned down for races because "man that car pulls, no way" so I just staged and wanted to see what would come up next to me and it was a trailblazer SS but the guy had turbocharged it apparently, I had to ask him afterwards because I was shocked that it stuck with me until maybe 80 mph at which point I got a good length or two.
Then the final race was a WRX who "had a burnt up clutch and blah blah blah excuses excuses" so he asked for 5 lenghts and the hit, and sure I gave it to him because I wanted to race, he won by about 2 because his clutch was clearly fine.
So in summary I apologize to all the XF owners out there that I didn't win many races, but I didn't want to spend 5 hours looking for someone that would actually put up a fair race so instead I just took what I could get even if the races were one sided.
I still had a lot of fun running today, and I very much need some new toys on my car, including those intake manifolds that needswings is working on.
Oh and I was running on the stock contis with just a Needswings intake that I wrapped in heat wrap.

WRT the 'atmosphere,' I was at the taping of Pinks and have attended many T&T sessions.....everyone I spoke with was the exact opposite of your "crew."
Try a little kindness towards the noobs...hell, TAKE THEIR MONEY ! They came to race, not to be excluded.
It would depend how I was feeling that day whether I'd race somebody I know I can crush or just say no. If someone came up to you in a civic with an intake and fart can, would you waste your time? I understand both sides but honestly I probably would have just crushed him and taught him a lesson right out the back so he/she wouldn't go around challenging everybody for money. And yes, I would have kept their money.
