Default Lost to a juiced GTO

A guy I know in town was at the track running his GTO the other night. His best on a 100 shot, intake, exhaust and tune was a 12.9@111, most of his other runs were low 13's. He called me out tonight so we met up and did our thing on a closed course. Their guy flagged, I spun a bit, he spun but I got him off the line. He reeled me in and eventualy pulled ahead by the 1/4 mile mark with a one car lead. Good close race. He's a pretty good guy so I guess I can trust him that he didn't bump that 100 shot up at all. Downside was the air was humid as hell and my car had no cool down time. I told him we'll have to do it at the track sometime, so I can at least let the flamethrower under the hood cool down. Win some you lose some, summer sucks!

I don't consider getting beat by somebody "on the bottle" being defeated, just "R&D".
On the track, and thru the lights you probably would have won. (Unless, like you said, the heat and humidity hurt you too much.)
I sure wish somebody would come up with a way to to put a "gear" in our cars. A nice 3.73;1 or 3.90:1 would really wake up an automatic XF. It would make 1st. gear useless in a 6 speed though.

If his best time in a GTO (LS1 OR LS2) was only a 12.9 with a 100 shot, then his car is broken.

STOCK (LS2) those cars have been known to pull a high 12.

Having owned a GTO and seen MANY at the track I can tell you I have NEVER seen one run a high 12 stock. I have seen MANY run low 14's and high 13's with a 97-102 trap. Those cars are expensive to mod and HEAVY. They do not respond very well to mods. My Ls1 GTO ran a best of 13.6@99 with headers/exhaust and tune. Not very good numbers in my opinion.

Go to LS1Tech. LS2 GTO's have hit a high 12. MANY in the very low 13's.

Are you seriously telling me that a LS1 car doesn't respond well to mods?

A 100 Shot GTO LS2 should be a low to STRONG mid 12 second car.

Then there was something wrong with your car. I don't even know how to respond to that.

99 MPH trap speed in a modded LS1?

I have seen those cars on LS1.com. Maybe with GREAT PRO drivers and a set of DR's on back they can run a high 12. I'm just going off of what I have seen. Some of those cars were run in perfect conditions at ATCO etc etc.

And there was nothing wrong with my car other than it was a 3800 lb pig with a sloppy A4 tranny.

The GTO has ALOT going against it right outta the gate. Weight, suspension, shitty tranny (on both ends), can't put big rear tires on back unless you have fenders rolled/cut etc etc etc.

There is a reason it didn't sell very well.

Here is a vid of my old one versus a car with the same mods except it had an M6 tranny.

BTW there are plenty of guys on LS1.com that have bigger shots of nitrous who have trouble hitting high 12's due to traction and suspension. Just run through some of the posts in the drag racing section.

That's how it is out here in vegas as well. Stock GTO's are runnin low 14's all night long and only in the dead of winter can they manage to break in to the HIGH 13's. I know a guy that has a 6.0 goat with intake, exhaust and 100shot and he runs low to mid 12's though.

My buddy's LS1 GTO ran with a full exhaust, a home dremel ported TB, and a home made intake and ran:

r/t - .636
60' - 1.992 (on 235/55/17 light truck street tires)
330 - 5.645
1/8 - 8.585
MPH - 84.64
1000 - 11.097
1/4 - 13.215
MPH - 106.28

So maybe SRTPowa's buddy is just a baaaad driver at the track. haha

his car is the 5.7 6spd. It went 13.8@103 stock. He has stock tires as well which doesn't help.

Chi, they are in the mail, well I hope. Haven't heard from Riot yet.

Our cars with the normal-pulley,tune,intake etc...+ 100 shot = 11.75! Today I went to the Doorslammer Nationals at Maryland International Raceway and ran a 11.03 @130mph on stock 19" rims with Hoosiers!

I didn't know anybody made 19'' drag radials and/or slicks??? If I knew that I'd have bought an extra pair of stockers instead of the 17's.

Hoosier makes the A6, check tirerack, they are made for auto-x but apparently they do well for drag racing too. Nitto is coming out with a 20" drag radial BTW.

Ahh; I see now. The 19's aren't actual DRs but are R compound auto x tires which as we can see by MDs numbers can provide a great amount of traction on the drag strip.

I knew about the Nitto 20'' DRs..........they will soon be going on my Charger as street tires.
