Hand my rear end handed to me by a Jag XF last night...
I just read the article one of the kind members here posted up about the SRT-6 being *UNDER* estimated at 330hp and truly being around 349/332 with a high 4 second zero to sixty time.
I by no means consider myself a professional driver, but last night from stop light to stop light I could NOT get ahead of a 2009 Jag XF, which I presume (and hope!) was the supercharged version. Now I understand these are both fast cars, but I just had no chance whatsoever. Just felt like transmission-wise I wasn't in the right gear for the job... I *was* in auto mode.
Am I correct in assuming this car comes into it's power band higher in the rev range? Am I just that sh!tty of a driver? I suppose considering the numbers on both cars are so close I shouldn't be too concerned, but still, I really wanted to hand it to that guy. Especially the way he had cut around me on a TURN lane to begin with.

I've noticed that if your car doesn't have a sprintbooster it tends to lag at the low end which could mean an initial loss of 1 car length and then it's catch up time. I drove a 6 roadster recently without one and it was a totally different vehicle than mine (w/ a SB). How many car lengths were you behind?
I'm hoping the car you raced was the SC version since it puts out 420hp. In all honesty it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are if your car is bone stock. Put a few mods on there and I'm sure you'll edge him out if he's local

Hey Gator!
Sorry about this weekend man, I was out of town with my brother. We def have to hook up sometime, but prefferably after I get all my niggling issues with the SRT fixed. Still have my wipers, liftgate rattle and Central locking vacuum pump to sort out.
Ironically, the SRT was going to be my mom's daily driver and I was going to take back over my 7. This has not happened...
Will take your advice on the engine mods... Just not even that far yet.

Was the "race" from a dig? If not there is a flat spot in the powerband on these cars (MBs too) where it falls on its face. On paper it should be a really close race.

Last paragraph states 0-60 in 5.1. Also your intercooler water pump might be on its way out. As the air intake temps rise timing is being pulled so you won't be making the max amount of HP.

In the powertrain department, the XF will be offered with four engines, though only two will be available in the U.S. - a naturally-aspirated 4.2L AJ V8 and a supercharged 4.2L AJ V8. The latter produces 300 bhp/310 ft-lbs of torque, while the blown version makes 420 bhp/408 ft-lbs. They're the same engine used in the Jaguar XK and XKR, respectively, and we hear a 500-hp motor is also being developed. Europe will also get a 2.7L V6 twin-turbo diesel and a 3.0L V6 producing 240bhp and 221ft-lbs. of torque. All engines will be mated to Jaguar's excellent six-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddles that produce shifts even quicker than in the XK. Lastly, 0-60 mph for an XF with the supercharged V8 will take an estimated 5.1 seconds, while a naturally aspirated car will be right behind at 6.2 seconds.

I noticed that when my IC pump was faulty, it did work, but it just didn't seem to have that umph. Anyway, a SB will definitely give you more responsiveness on the low end. Before I installed mine I could barely squeak the tires from a dig but now I leave a good 10-15ft streak on the road when I pin it. I was skeptical about it but I'm a firm believer of them now
Ok people , if you dont have enough sense to put your car atleast in first (if nothing else) when trying to slay a worthy foe, THEN DON'T BOTHER RACING! YOUR MAKING US LOOK BAD MAN!!!!!
I agree with Blue ! Shift down to 1st gear manually and leave it there. When the engine hits Red Line the tranny will catch the next gear.
Good Luck !
Just my Dos Centavos !

I can't believe both of you posted before I could even type this, but that was probably *HALF* the problem, someone had switched the stupid switch on my transmission to Winter mode un-beknownst to me. May have even been me when I was cleaning the dash. What an idiot.
So I was starting in 2nd... great.
