I've been talking to a few dealers ans local Chrysler people.

Is it true the factory unit can play a MP3 disc?? I have the nav unit if that matters?? I told them no, but they insisted

Yes they can. Just not a data cd full of MP3 files.. has to be an "audio disk".. can even play CD-RW!!

Okay that is completely new to me... an audio disc with MP3s on it? How on earth do you do that?

Or are you talking about using MP3s to MAKE an Audio-CD?

Our head units will NOT play standard MP3 discs...

That is what I though too. To the first poster, an MP3 disc can hold hundreds of songs, not just 19 or 20. This is what I've been trying to tell this dealer. He doesn't seem to quite get it.

Does this work for the standard unit or just the nav?

I know you guys are right... I have the head unit with NAV... won't play MP3 discs... that was one of the first things I tried... CD-R and CD-RW... no go.

Cheers!

I make CDs for the factory head unit (both nav and non-nav) by assembling my MP3s into a play list in iTunes and then burning them as an audio (not data) CD. Works like a champ.

I usually put 10-12 on a disc. It could hold more but that's the most I tend to listen to at a time.

Can't do it. It's gotta be CDDA/Red Book to play in the factory head unit.

So far I haven't been able to coax my factory unit to play ANY of the CDs that I have burned, even though they conform to CDDA/Red Book standards. I haven't tried CD-RWs yet. I know that some players that refuse to play CD-Rs will work with CD-RWs due to the different reflectivity.

The fact that the radio won't play MP3s was a disappointment, but only a minor one.

As far as I'm concerned the crappy Jensen looking factory headunit is the first thing coming straight out once I get ready to take on projects with the XF. I don't really care about being able to play Mp3 CD's, but I have GOT to have a way to get iPod audio into the system, especially as phenomenal as the XF's system is.

So the search for a nice looking aftermarket headunit begins.

I use CD-Rs and they work in both of my cars (nav in the Limited, non-nav in the SRT). Perhaps it's your burning software. I just click the "Burn" button in the lower right corner of iTunes on my Mac notebook. It's never made a coaster.
