How did I get the 3.5 to 3.7 GPM, well it is in the car with the restrictions that the radiator (LET)and intercooler have. Please see the photo as it shows the deal. The free flow ratings and actual field results often are less than anticipated.

I wish that some one could show me how to repost a photo a second time without having the " this photo was posted previously" issue pop up. Woody Enjoy

Okay, I guess that's uderstandable. I wonder what the OEM pump puts out with the restrictions that you mentioned.
To repost a pic that you have already posted, find the pic on the forum, right click on it, then click copy. Then to repost it where you want, right click in the area you want to post it and click paste. Or find the thumbnail of the pic, left click (holding the button down) and drag it over the pic till it high lites it, let off the mouse button, hold the control key down and hit the "C" on the keyboard. Then to repost the thumbnail, left click where you want to post it, hold the control key down again and hit the "V" on the keyboard. Either way usually works for me.

I have a photo and it should show the flow meter that I used. The restriction of the car radiator (LET) and the intercooler reduce the FREE flow capacity of the pump.

This was posted twice, I have had an upload problem today??????? Woody

I believe this is the weak point.
It does make me wonder if the pump failures are primarily associated with the left-over cars that remained sitting for such long periods, as many have theorized. The pumps are water lubricated, and short of the pump running bone dry as might be the case after long inuse I don't know what could have done that. The pump isn't all that different from what's driving my hot-tub, and that has warnings all over it (and a safety shut-off circuit) to keep it from running dry.

Has anyone else dissected a failed pump?

Bump for proof the search button works...

Replacing my pump and was searching for info on the CM30P7-1.

One thing I guess i can toss in, is these pumps are rated in hours, not miles. If you drive your car in stop and go traffic your pump will see more hours per mile then the average freeway cruiser. Hence one of the reasons for the wide varience in miles for replacing pumps.

I think the pump flow rate specs and the actual flow when installed could be different. I don't think they measure the flow rate in any specific application. It's just like the HP ratings for a motor. Each application will determine the final RWHP delivered, due to driveline losses etc.

It's just like injectors, they are playing the numbers game. Get a supper supper light fluid, and flow it, then flow a supper dense fluid. Which will have a higher flow rate.

Injector companies like to rate there injectors using super light fuels (C16/Q16 race gas ect) to get a really high flow rate, when in reality on normal crap 91 octane it will flow much less.

Also you have the physical restrictions of the system. The Heat Exchanger con only flow so much. Woody proved the the bottle neck in the system can only flow 3.5 - 3.7 gpm. And we'll assume the water passages in the Heat Exchanger are that bottle neck. It's the same principle with going to a larger intake or exhaust. Yeah the engine can breath more but that choke in the intake is preventing it, so the engine is under rated. Open up that choke point and the engine can breath to it's fullest.

JOHNSON PUMPS ARE IN STOCK!
Get them now while we have them! Once they sell out, you may have to wait a while, because they are often on backorder.

Don't forget to check out our Heat Exchangers too!

Is the Johnson pump hard to install?....instructions if anyone has any. My car has slight hesitation here and there and have been thinking about swapping out.

We have found the actual bottleneck to be the supercharger intercooler.

Hi,

The Bosch H/E pump has an air hose to the rear, what do I do with it when I replace the H/E pump with the Johnson pump? The Johnson pump doen't have the air hose connection.

Also, the Johnson pump seems much smaller than the Bosch but is rated higher?

Just remove the hose. It is less than 2 feet long and just snakes up higher in the engine compartment and then loops back down. It is not needed with the Johnson.

Yes. I used the new Johnson bracket and drilled a hole to add a second mounting bolt rather then re-use the Bosch bracket and shim with rubber as others have done.

Hi Blast Chamber,

Thanks for the usefull information. I will be replacing the the Bosch H/E pump with the Johnson C30 and also will be replacing the H/E with the larger PLM H/E. It takes some mounting reconfiguration but should be worth while one it is done.

Thanks again.
