Unhappy Accident

So the Roadster got in a pretty bad accident today. I avoided a head-on collision by swerving the car to the right but driver's side got the brunt of the impact.

Basically I was coming out of a gas station by a light and a guy was making a left turn (on a green, not a green arrow), didn't see me, started making the turn and wacked me. I saw it coming, hence the reason I cut the wheel. It was at low speed and I'm alright, car's in worse shape but just a little neck pain. I'm guessing ~$5K in damage.

Wow, sorry to see and hear that. At least you are OK. Had a sideswip on the turnpike this last Feb. It really ticked me off but all can be fixed so as long as your not injured, call it a good day.

That sucks man! Car can be fixed but glad you're alright. That should be easy superficial damage to repair.

Mike

Sorry to hear about the accident. The fender is not a problem. Does the window go up and down ok? If the guts,(framing) of the door are ok then they can most likey repair the door. The rear quarter shouldn't be a problem. Did the air bag go off?

Did they site you or the other driver? Man that was an expensive fill up...

Ashley had gotten hit with my SRT square in the passenger door and it cost $900 from a junk yard. The air bag went off, but lucky the replacement door had one intack. The door panel was initially sewn, but never looked right and I ended up buying a pair on Ebay.

Let me know the progress.

At least it didn't have to be towed away like my buddy's 325 (formerly one of my cars, he's probably going to end up with the XF after all)...

I would say 5 is about right. The BMW so FAR (has not been torn down yet) is at $10,000 damage including all three panels (Fender, Door, and rear quarter) ALL the interior door components, a new seat, a new mirror, new glass and a new rear tire etc. The car has already been with Plaza BMW in Saint Louis over a month and isn't scheduled to be out until at least another month's time (the Saturn Aura rental they gave my buddy had 18,500 miles when he got it, it now has 26,000). It would not start after he got t-boned either.

So I'd say 5k for the door, fender and then repairing the rear quarter sounds about right.

Gator, depending on who is found at fault (I'm sure it will be him) make sure you keep a medical case open and go to the doctor straight away. Don't mess around with pain, it's indicative of a larger problem most of the time.

He was at fault, and admitted it right away with his insurance card in hand. I did go to the doctor and was prescribed some meds if I need it.

I had my top down at the time of the accident and thought the window would have been busted since it was down and it was near the point of impact, but it didn't break. I'm surprised at the speed it occured there was so much damage. Air bag also didn't deploy and my steering alignment is way off now about a quarter turn

Yea definitely not sufficient damage there for a side impact airbag deployment. It DID deploy on the BMW but that was a 45mph DIRECT impact collision from the old lady's front end and the front airbag still didnt go off (the rear roll bars popped up also). I would say if the side airbag had gone off in this case you might have been more injured than you were.

Ouch, that makes for a rough day. At least the guy that hit you had insurance and didn't try to pass the blame off on you. Hopefully you can get it fixed quick and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Always sucks to see a Crossfire with damage but glad yours is repairable.
Also good to know the guy has insurance and admitted fault.
Should be ho haggling when it comes to repairs.
I just hope my thread the other day didn't jinx ya.

It will all work out. We have certainly seen worse on this forum.

Take care, Gary

Glad you are ok. - I had my 97 Audi Cabriolet t-boned like the BMW in the picture.

New front fender - new door , window and panel, door sill, side mirror total was alittle over 8 grand in 1999. Audi dealers shop did a great job putting it back - and repainted the entire car (Audi's silver is a bear to match) It looked brand new
BUT!
We could never get the door and window to line up to the top the way it used to, road noise got louder and in a heavy rain it always leaked - just a drop at a time - but it drove me crazy for the next 4 years

What was the perp. driving? From the looks of things it appears he was driving a car & not a truck/SUV.
