Default wobble, hmmm

Ok, as you may have seen in my other, recent thread, I've relocated to DC. Not sure if the crappy streets with pot holes, frost heaves, and other products of road neglect bent my wheels or if it's the tires, but the car has an annoying wobble, humming sound at the wheels. My previous car, a G35 Coupe had the same thing as the tires approached 12k miles. The SRT6 is right around 13k now. Anyone else experience this? I'm hoping it's just a tire issue.

What do you mean by a wobble? Does it shake or feel like a tire is out of round or is it just a humming sound?

It "sounds" like a shimmy or wobble, but doesn't feel like anything. Know what I mean? It isn't a steady hummmmmm, it is an unsteady, well, wobble sound. It sounds like the car should be shaking, but it doesn't.

Have you checked the tires for uneven wear, loose lug nuts, or feathering?

It might just be road noise. Some tires get louder as the tread wears down. Is it all the tires or just one? When you said a shimmy or a wobble I was thinking maybe damaged belt in the tire, but if there's no physical shaking or wobble I'd check for what SVO said.

I know my Goodyear F1 A/S make a pretty loud "hum".

Probably about 14,000 miles on 'em.

If you have PS2 Michelins, I'm guess it's the tires. Mine started "feathering" and making noise too. My SRT-4 with the BFG Camp TA KDW did it REALLY BAD!

No sign of feathering or uneven wear. When I first got the car, it had about 10k on it and was quiet. This sound is very annoying. It's not an even hummmmmmmmmmmmm, it's an uneven, wom, wom, wom, wom, wom, wom, wom......... (say that outloud fast, and that's what it sounds like). Yes, the tires are the original PS2 Michelins.

I'm a mechanical guy, but I can't fix what I can't find. Thanks for the help, I'll keep checking. No way am I taking it to a dealer though.

Flat spot in one of the tires maybe? Have they been balanced after the humm?

Id like to suggest that you swap the tires around to see if the sound changes or stays the same. Thats a low impact idea that may yield some information, Enjoy.

A tire specialist once told me that Z rated tires and better start to "cup" as they wear. They made noise and vibrate, and only get worse over time. The only solution is to replace them. So it's really just a wear issue. I had the same trouble with a set of W rated Conti's I had on my other car. As soon as I replaced the tires, all the wobble and noise went away.

That's what I am leaning to. As I stated previously, my G35 Coupe did the same thing at nearly the same milage. You know? This all started after my very long drive from NH to DC.

Thanks everyone for your responses!
