Default Resonator delete

I have just had the resonator removed, I now have a headache! it is very boomy! especially at certain revs (65ish)

On a plus it has made a difference at WOT both to performance and noise!!! It sound awesome.

I will now be exploring changing the back box now to stop the drone It may add a tittle more aggression to the note!)

I thought the noise change was "apparently" barely noticeable?

NOW WHAT??

turn up the music.......it drones a little on my c32 at about 75mph, but not bad. i just close windows and turn it up. you can replace it with a different resonator if you like or change your muffler.

Dude, you have to go into the wayback machine, I did all this and it did not sound correct. I added a 4" stainless WYE pipe to the back end and it is NOT boomy and very euro sounding.

Part is for a diesel ford truck and is about 150$ from Summit, fits the eye well and has the same center to center......See my Galary for more. Woody

PS being a hands on guy, I first tried to empty the factory res. to see how that was, and it was limp for sure, then I did the delete..........Zoom Zoom

I know, I hate the drone now in my car on long drives and now I have a bad hatch rattle because of it! Hope the hatch doesn't act up on you too, because that's what's more Bothersome to me. But it does sound great outside the car!

Is that what the actual inside of the muffler looks like? Talk about restriction! Now I may have to upgrade the muffler for sure! Thanks Woody!

Yes I think a back box upgrade is on the cards, if you choose carefully you can "tune" the sound to your taste. I think a little less bass and a bit more trebble would be perfection!

I think the borla is going to be the most quiet one for you. I have the magnaflow and its loud.

Heres the inside, stuff shown FYI.

Add a 3' piece of pipe to the end just to see the difference the length makes.

LeePie, I guess I am more tolerant. I love the sound of my Aero with the resonator deleted. I might try the Woody version when/if my muffler goes out. That wont be for a while I expect....

I see what you have done, but appears you are refering to the back box as the resonator. The part I have removed is the other resonator before this one (the 2 int 1 collector resonator)

I think I'll leave mine alone. I like the sound under WOT and it still goes 158 mph, which is enough to get me in serious trouble.

True enough, I keep getting that confused. THe muffler was easy and largely reversable. Woody

Smile Re: Resonator delete

I have been looking at my options:

1. Add a high flow resonator to reduce the "boominess"

2. Try a different backbox (the exhaust fabricator said it would probably sound the same)

3. Use this as an excuse to have a custom T304 system made........

I am leaning towards option 3 but want to maximise performance, I appreciate I will not gain much HP over the resonator delete (some on here are showing 10hp+) but, I don't want to get it wrong and lose HP!

Anyway I blame you all, I cannot stop messing with my car!! I have only had it 3 months and look at my Sig!

just removed my resonator, and i LOVE IT!!!!! a little more cabin rumble, but sounds incredible at WOT!!!! no raspiness, just a very smooth, low tone.
i'm deleting the 2 rear cats next, anyone know if this makes much of an increase on top of the resonator delete? seems like it would, but then again, these type of things are NEVER the same on different cars.

Just a thought. . . . Has any one tried just going with a couple of cheap glass pack mufflers they even make them in stainless steel....... Instead of these verry expensive systems? I like the sound of the magnaflow system DKNIESS had but wow the price is crazy....and why not have two pipes all the way back no y pipe?

And I also think its cool that you opened up the muffler that way, Talk about thinking (outside the box) or should I say inside!!!

OK It was option 3 that prevailed! It is a work of art and the sound is just what I wanted, a bit of extra rumble on normal driving (very muscle car) and mental on WOT, looks very cool too!!

Our cars are too quiet from the factory but there is a fine line between a good sounding car and miserable cabin drone.
