Default Dyno = no joy

Went to the dyno today just to see what would happen. I pulled fuse 18 for the first run. the car reved to redline but had full brake on the passenger side rear wheel. Go figure. So I pulled fuse 17 too. Same result. Pulled fuse 10 too. Same result. Red smoking passenger rear brake pads and rotor. It looked like a NASCAR pit stop. The drivers side was fine. So I either need a mathamatical equation to figure drag to guess what I'm putting down or I have to go to the track to see if my car is a fairy or a man. Specifics. Dynojet, 3rd gear pulls. 93 degrees 30.29in-Hg and 23% humidity. 219.87 hp and 190.35 torque. Sooooooooobbbb.
Throw away dyno day. I'm taking my other car for comparison purposes sometime this week just for the fun of it. Gotta get to the track with this car for real information.

I am not sure why your rear wheel was locking up?! But you should be making your pulls in 4th gear.

your wheel should not have been locking up. is your brake caliper stuck or something?

i would get your car checked out, it should not be locking up the wheels like that.

Yea, I know. But they were more comfortable using 3rd and being my first time on any dyno, I decided not to pretend I knew more than them. After the first run the owner, who was watching commented that the car was braking. Then we smelled that hot brake pad smell, took a look and saw the glowing rotor. Really don't have a clue why. It's never happened just tearing around.

The dyno is mph by the way. The torque graph is all over the place except for the first pull which is steady at the peak from where I floored it to where I let off.

are you sure that when they strapped down the car they didnt wrap the strap over the ebrake cable which is right next to the frame down there. it happened to us the first time a shop strapped our srt6 down on the dyno. 58hp dyno pull, lol

Those numbers aren't what I would expect from your car. Your brakes baffle me.

I asked the tech if it was possible that the straps could have been affecting the brakes in some way. He said it was possible but unlikely. Since it was only one wheel I think this may have happened. I'm going to crawl under the car tomorrow to see what I can discover.

As far as the numbers. Throw away dyno. The car runs real strong. But that little bit of doubt enters your mind when something like this happens. If possible I'm going to the track in the next 2 weeks. Another first for me. Gotta look for a helmet.

I wondered how stingy the dyno was so after a while I went back with the 300C. More or less the same conditions. Water temp was 220. Hot, hot, hot. Pulled 265 hp and 295 torque. So the dyno is a little stingy. And the dyno is cheap! $20.00 for 3 pulls.

so you strapped your car to a $60,000 dyno, used an hour of shop time and at least one employee and only paid $20 ???????

that doesnt add up, lol.

btw, we pay 100 for the first hour and 75 for each additional hour of dyno time

If it was only one wheel, your traction may have been going NUTS!

Yeah, $20 smackers for 3 pulls. The "employee" is what we call a 0 to the left of the point. (cero izquierdo) You remember your math, don't you
It's $60 for 1 1/2 hours with your mechanic and buds. Up to 4 people on the platform. I was really happy to pay so little.

That car "Chivy King" was a monster. Tiny car. The turbo looked bigger than the motor!

They have the dynojet for rear wheel drive and a 4 wheel dyno that they use for the rest. There was a line to use the other dyno. Honda's, Mitusbishi's mostly.

The place is called Sporty Dyno. You can Google it.

Are you still running the factory tune/ECU settings?

With an aftermarket tune - you should never need to pull fuses again when you hop on a two wheel dyno machine....

All I have is the Needswings intake. I've decided to mod the car and wanted to know what I have to start with. Still don't know unfortunately. Real embarrassing numbers but what can I say, one of the brakes was .... braking. I think they must have pinched the e-brake cable. I've been dreaming about going to the strip but keep finding reasons why I can't. Now I have a good reason to go. Even the dyno guy said "MPH don't lie".

If NW snagged the cable the first time I'm sure that's what happened there too. Take it to the strip and try it again and make sure they strap it down right! We have to see that 06 represent!!!

I just bought a multifunction machine with a scanner and when I get it figured out I'll post the graph. Maybe it will make sense to someone. And yes, I'm feeling the responsibility to represent. That will get me to the track. It's have to time.

It definitely sounds like they crimped the ebrake cable on the passenger side.

Well, I went to the track for the first time in my life and I have to say, some of you make it look a lot easier than it is. My first run I had a 3.40 60'. Yep, spun the tires like no tomorrow. But my mph was 106.62. Not too bad. 2nd run felt much better to me. Got to the booth and the dorkus couldn't find my slip. Well, Sh*t happens he says, run again and maybe the timer will work. I have to work tomorrow so I left after 2 runs. At least I confirmed that the car is running strong. Just need to tune up the driver.
