First try at drag racing the 6
I only have two mods done so far (CAI and Pulley) no tune yet. Additionally I'm currently running Crossfire Limited rims w/ Eagle F1 All-Season tires (my winter setup) with whatever the stock pressure I had in them (I think 36lbs).
The night was very cold (38-37 degrees) and on top of that the track had cones in the middle of the staging area causing you to start in the hole to one of the far edges of the track, outside of the standard "groove". Needless to say traction was a huge problem, possibly because of "where" we were forcing us to line up at the track- possibly because of the low temps (cold track)- and possibly because of the "All"-season tires. Though I'd have to assume it's a little bit of each coupled with an inexperienced driver (me).
Anyway here's what I got-
FIRST RUN: Took off out of the hole at full throttle, big no no apparently- fishtailed the whole way through my 60ft. I did however beat the fox-body Mustang I was pitted against. lol Terrible times.
60ft- 2.327
1/4- 13.8
MPH- 107.39
ouch!!!
SECOND RUN: Took off at partial throttle before I pinned the pedal. It felt like much less slippage however the 60ft wasn't much better. (I lost to a GTO w/ nitrous by .4 sec)
60ft- 2.156
1/4- 12.95
MPH- 108.94
THIRD RUN (final): Had to cut it short with my 3rd run because my wife was frozen solid spectating in the crowd. She sent me some not so nice reminders via text message how cold she was. lol I felt like I got out of the hole about as good (if that's what you want to call it) as the second run but got a better time but slower trap. (I got smoked by a late-model firebird by 7/10ths who trapped at 116)
60ft- ???? (didn't record for the left lane)
1/4- 12.82
MPH- 107.91
Overall I'm disappointed but I had to keep in mind if I'm using Chris (DistantPulse) as a control/reference he was having trouble hooking up and was seeing less than stellar trap speeds as well. However he had 1-day old summer tires he just got installed on his. The combination of the cold-weather vs summer tires, and the fact they were brand new (not even broken in) may of had something to do with it.
Anyway I'm hoping with a warmer track and summer tires I can pull a 12.7-12.5 with the CAI and ASP Pulley. I'll probably finally get around to getting a tune for it before I run it again- hopefully then I'll see low 12's. Then maybe manis, h/e upgrade, and another tune to get me into the 11-second-club. Though that may be wishful thinking. Either way, even though my times weren't stellar- it was my first time running a car at a track in over 10 years, and I still had fun regardless. If it wasn't as cold and I had unlimited times I probably would have ran it 10x to get the launch mechanics down right.

Pretty good for a first time if you ask me! The whole secret to success is the start. I don't have a pulley (yet) and I cant launch my car. My best times and traction are with the rear tires at 28lbs. driver side and 30lbs passenger side. I brake torque to 1500 and when its time to go, lift off the brake and once rolling push the pedal all the way down over the time span of 1 or 1.5 seconds. Faster than that and I spin. My best 60' is 2.0012 with a 1/4 mile time of 13.0712 at 109.74 mph. The next time you will do better for knowing what doesn't work. I also found that lining up in the rubber tracks won't help with street tires. I did much better leaving off line away from where the rubber was heavy. Could be coincidence. Looking at all my slips, when my 60' was 2.15 I ran 13.25. So your pulley is worth at least 3 tenths. It was around 78º when I ran my best. Now aren't you glad you went racing? I'm amazed at all the cars I thought were fast that finish behind me. I'll bet you feel the same.

Your right on target. With your same setup I added drag radials and ran 12.52. Before tune as well. When I added the 93 InMotion tune I went to 12.02. You want those cold nights, just need drag radials to take full advantage of them. In spite of photoman your DA had to be killer in Jersey this time of year. What track did you go to?

Glen, you did a great job IMO for your first time and with the poor track conditions! I watched your burnout and staging and it looked pretty decent. Dont worry, she has more in her.
I was spinning at least past the 60ft every time! Never broke into the 1.9's! I think my low trap mphs were because I was leaning out big time at the top of the track in 3rd! I was seeing 15.5-16.1 A/F for a good 2-3 seconds until it shifted in 4th! Yikes!
yeah you did pretty good, i am sure once the track warms up and they get some more rubber down you will see a lot better times.
there are a lot of factors that effect your times such as temps, humidity, altitude, track conditions, your tires, fuel, tune, track prep just to name a few. Not one single factor will make or break your times (of course unless you have an extreme of one such as 110 degree temps or 100 percent humidity) lol.
When do you think you will get your tune?
I bet the 60' king distantpulse can help you get your 60' times down to legendary levels on street tires

Nice work! My best with a very similar setup was 12.7, and that was with a whole summer of racig under my belt. You kicked a lot of a$$ for your first night out. Once you get your launch technique down - keeping those wheels from spinning is tough - you'll be golden!
Keep it up!
Keep it up!
