Default Should I spring for the SRT-6?

This might be a dumb question but with the SRT-6 being supercharged is there any higher cost of maintenance associated with the SRT-6 as opposed to the limited or base crossfires? Im somewhat in a delimma. I want a crossfire that I know. There are some very nice low mileage examples out there (10,000mi) however I found an SRT-6 with around 30,000 miles for just about a grand more than what is being asked of the limited models I have found. The extra speed would be great, but does it come at a much higher cost? Another thing is that this SRT-6 is a long way away and I would not really be able to make a trip out to just give the car a look. Also the dealer said they could not provide me with a carfax over the phone but they could in person. Whats up with that? They are willing to meet me half way if I am serious about it. It seems like they are really trying to unload it. A basic carfax search comes up with 19 records on the car. They assured me its in perfect condition and its worth my drive to check it out, but I just dont know. I have always bought my vehicles within a fairly local area. Are there any specific questions I should ask about the SRT-6?

Most dealers will tell you just about anything to get you in-
then when you want to leave thay will tell you what you want
so you dont leave.
If its not that one, there will be another one soon.
Keep looking for what you want.
GOOD LUCK it's really a GREAT CAR !!!!!!!!!!

If anyone is a carfax member here is the VIN: 1C3AN79N95X057443

This particular SRT-6 appears to be what I want. I love the color and the mileage is decent. I'm just afraid to bite on this one.

GET a SRT!! But be patient if you have to in finding the right car for you - it's a buyer's market right now. And I'm sure many members on here are willing to go check out a car for you.

I was in a similar situation. There were a few local SRT's, but the one I ended up getting was sold by a forum member. I had to drive from Vegas to Phoenix to pick it up, but it was very much worth it.

If it looks bad, just be patient and another deal will surely come up.

As far as special maintenance, I can't think of anything. The supercharged engine is the main difference, and I can't think of any required services that are significantly different.

Here's the Carfax report attached as a pdf.

That car has made some rounds, but I didn't see anything especially alarming. I am hunting for an SRT vert as well and I am just learning the Carfax thing and I wonder about service records. Is it necessarily a bad thing if you don't see all the service records on a car? Do all dealers generate a Carfax entry when they do service on a vehicle?

Higher fuel consumption (though worth it )
Certain wears items are marginally more expensive

I don't like the suspension serviced and 4 wheel alignment.
That sounds a bit odd. They also replaced two tires. If
they were the rears, no problem. If they were the front,
could be an issue. Remember, 4 PS2's will runn you about
$1,200.00..

Honestly if it had a 4 wheel alignment then that thing should drive straight as an arrow, i had an accident and after the accident and 4 wheel the car was less sloppy.

Normal maintenance is almost identical. Air filters and brakes a little more expensive since there are fewer SRT6s. Heaven help you if the s/c fails.

The Carfax looks like it was originally titled in TX and used as a dealer vehicle, then sold at auction in OK. It appears only two owners. Not all repairs will make it to Carfax, although dealers are pretty good at entering data. My SRT6 was a dealer vehicle for a year, then owned by a private party before I bought it with 8400 miles. Other than the s/c intercooler failing -- a normal occurence -- it has been fine.

What is meant when a car is stated as being a dealer car? How much would I be looking at should the intercooler fail? All the vehicles I have owned have been naturally aspirated so please forgive me for my ignorance.

Just curious roncosrt6, why might there be an issue if the front tires have been replaced? I am not sure but arent the wheel and tire sizes the same for the SRT-6, Limited, and Base? If so tire cost for all the trim levels should be the same right?

By the way which ever kind of Crossfire I decide on, it will be used as my daily driver is that is anything to take into consideration. I have heard the SRT-6 does have a harsher ride because of the stiffer suspension, that is something that wont bother me.

you want the stiffer suspension but to a certain extent and what i mean by that is if it is the stiffness of the shock on bumps or the stiffness that the car stays planted down and has no body roll.

I have not driven the srt but on the limited I want to go with some lowering springs to bring the center of gravity down and then add some adjustable koni shocks to stiffen up the ride but easily adjustable for long drives. I am thinking swaybar as well but that will be after i do the shocks, springs and brembo brakes.

either way you go i think if you get the limited you will come out with a very nice suspension AFTER you mod it The srt is going to be good right from the get go but after a while you might want to cut the springs to lower the center of gravity and maybe replace the shocks after some wear with koni's

Dealer car usually = a vehicle owned by the dealership and used by the owner, sales manager, sales force, loaner, demo. So potentially lots of drivers and could have been abused (e.g., tire replacement could be from hard acceleration). Or, it could just have been used by the owner's wife, because he gives her whatever she wants in the way of a new car every year. Car for sex....<sigh>, no longer works in my household.

jlindsey86, the tire sizes are the same for both cars, but fronts are 18's and rears are 19's. The rears are exponentially more expensive than fronts. Typically, bad wear on fronts, might indicate abuse. Hitting curbs, pot holes etc.
I'm just paranoid about tire wear and suspension issues.
If it was a suspension service, whatever that is, then I guess no big deal.
Rears I can understand. I got about 16K miles out of my rear PS2's. To many quick starts.

I see roncosrt6, that didnt cross my mind. Good point. I have some time to make my decision, plan on selling my current vehicle first. We'll see what happens.

Yes everything is more expensive. I dont care what anyone else says
12 spark plugs
8.5 quarts of mobile 1
the oil filter is 2-3 times the cost of regular filters

etc etc.
Does it matter? Not really

I own a limited model, don't know a whole lot about the SRT, but just keep in mind:

By our nature, an SRT will have been driven a lot harder than a Limited over the same miles. Beware of an SRT with a squirrely CarFax maintenance record. Be patient and find the right one.
