Hail damage repair
My SRT has hail damage and I took it to a shop for repair quote. It has some good dents in hood and roof and one on left door and one on right door. I was that it would be an increase in price due to the aluminum hood. I just took the outrageous quote and left, for I just wanted to get an idea of cost. I am relatively new to the crossfire, only being an owner for two months now. I guess I need some clarification on wether we (SRT-6) have an aluminum hood. The tech looked over the damage and went to his computer and then came back to give me the quote, $900 w/insurance $600 w/o, so I am not sure if he is pulling a fast one on me or if his information is wrong. Do we in fact have an aluminum hood and does this seem like a reasonable price for dent repair.
I know to get a good perspective of damage and repair cost you need more detailed info, so without pictures this is what I have compiled. Hood:5 medium dents, Roof:7 small dents, Driver door:1 medium dent, Pass door: 1 medium dent. Anyway, not looking for exact figures, just past experiences.

i had hail damage to a jeep i once owned.I took it to a place called dentsmith. It is a paintless dent repair and i must say i was very happy with the results. It is also alot cheaper than taking it to a body shop.I am sure there is a dentsmith in your area or something very simular. You might want to check it out
the place I took it to was a paintless dent repair, specializing in hail damage. I do plan on getting a second opinion but I just want to go a bit more prepared. Knowing about a difference in material for the hood would help; I just don't think our hoods are AL, but I have been wrong before.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will look them up and see if they are local.

My BMW had hail damage last year. I had 3 spots on the trunk and 3 on the hood. I paid $200 cash not through insurance, and I went directly to the guy in my area that all of the garages use. So the quote sounds pretty good considering the # of panels and the # of dents. Just make sure they don't ruin/lose any fasteners, screws, etc., my guy mentioned that a lot of places do excellent dent repair, but crappy assembly. Just my two cents.

CRAP, I cut my hood and its ALL STEEL baby. Yeah do the magnet test.
UTUBE has a shot of how the dents are removed, Ill try to include it, Woody

Did you know that a magnet will attract all metals, lead, copper, aluminum and gold if they are cold enough. Above their Curie point (temperature ) they loose magnetic properties. Heat steel and it goes non magnetic!!!! FYI tidbit, woody

My hood is half aluminum and half steel...............maybe I have a factory freak???

PS: All hoods on ALL OEM Crossfires are 100% steel.

Hood is steel. I had paintless dent removal done on my 93 RX7. Steel has a memory aluminum does not. Back when I had mine done the guy said he cannot do aluminum for that reason. Anyway, I had fenders, doors hood and hatch done. Probably about 60-70 small dents. I was charged $300.00
Thanks for everyones help. I will be getting another quote to compare prices. I might even take it back to the place that gave me my first quote to see if they give me a better price for there screw up. I have $500 deductible so that will be the most I spend, but would really like to get a good deal. My car is by far better than what I have seen when hail reeks havoc. We will see what comes of it.
