Default Need tire advice

Hi guys. The time has come to cough up the money for new tires for my SRT-6. My rear tires barely passed inspection, and the fronts aren't the best either. Right now it has the original Conti's on it, with 14K miles.

Any recommendations on new tires? I'm definitely looking for an all season tire. I garage the car from November until late March, but I don't want to risk getting caught in a surprise snow storm with summer tires. As far as driving style...I suppose I'm pretty tame. I drive the car mostly to and from work on a highway at around 80-85 MPH, with occasional bursts to around 100 MPH. So, no racing, high speed turns, etc.

I was looking at the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons on TireRack.com...what do you guys think about those? Any other recommendations? Money wise, is there usually much of a difference between buying online or getting them at a local tire shop?

Thanks for your opinions.

I can recommend that you don't buy the Sumitomo HRZ III tires. I have them, and I don't like them. Too squirly, not grippy enough.

Thumbs down Re: Need tire advice

Goodyear Eagle F1's are scrap, handling superb, sounds like driving a Dodge ram 4X4 after 5K, Really really annoying

Yeah buddy, I have the same tires and the same noise. Cupping the tread as well, so I need new shocks. The local Mercedes Dealer suspension expert said not to put anything on the car but Michellins. The Pilot Plus tires are my next set.
Took the car into a frame shop to see what they could find regarding uneven tire wear. Turns out the front wheel bearings were shot. Just 24K miles too. I think someone missed the wheel bearing check when the dealer certified the car. Anyway, I have an extended service plan for $2200. The new bearings and hubs cost $1200, so I'm doing all right. I have the disappearing deductible plan so it's like my original warranty never went away. It will probably pay for itself my next time in!
I'm putting the adjustable KONIs on the front soon. There're the yellow ones at the KONI website.
Later days . . .

I had the factory Conti's and just went to Nitto Invo's. After about 1500 miles, I love them. The ride is smoother, the handling is much better and thevtread pattern is pretty cool looking. They do very well in the wet but I don't think they would do too well in the snow, however. Not too much of a concern here in Oklahoma, but something you might consider...

I just had my tires changed, and decided on the Michelin Pilot Sports A/S Plus after much analysis of comments in various threads on this and the mbworld forums.

Used to have GoodYear F1 A/S, and never knew how noisy they were until I switched to the Michelins.

Could have been cheaper buying online but Costco is just 2 mins away, and the little extra for the convenience and additional after-sales service warranty made it an easy choice for me.

I like the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S's. Yes, they get noisy after a while but for overall performance, wear & cost they're hard to beat. The perform extremely well in rain & not too bad in snow.
As to online vs. local tire dealer: go to Tirerack, figure out your total cost including shipping, then ask around & see how much they'll be to mount & balance. Once you get a good final number on how much it'll really cost try pricing the same tire at a local dealer. Sometimes (certainly not always!) the cost difference between the 2 is negligible.

Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up getting the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons. I'm a little worried about the reported noise, especially considering that I think the Conti's on it now are noisy. Oh well, the price was right. I ended up ordering them from a local tire shop. They were only slightly more than TireRack.com, and a bundle cheaper than Sam's Club.

Hmmm....I've never burned rubber on this car because I didn't want to wear out my tires. Now that I'm getting a new set soon, maybe I'll take it out and have a little fun with the old ones.
