a dragster with an engine that is not stuffed into the tight confines of an engine compartment?

The hood can be an area of low pressure and not add to the air flow numbers. See my hood vents, negative pressure.

To really help you want cowl induction like the chevys did. THere is a short path, and area of high static pressure, and any air that you eat up would reduce the overall drag on the car as it pushed its way forward. I sweat over that approach until I went with my hood cooling and used the grill as the air inlet when I designed the dual CAI approach using a pair of Robs finest setups.
