Talking How to polish your Socket to another Woody Idea for your Crossfire

I have been doing some work on the car to gain control and traction by adding 8.5" x 18 wheels. Doing the work got me to thinking that I had another Trick that I could share with the crowd.

With 4 set of wheels and tires, I do lots of changing and have come across several hints to avoid the KINKS.

I use an impact socket but have polished it so that the end is SMOOOOTH. Its easy to do and takes only 2 minutes to do. I chuck up the socket in the impact and using a piece of 350 (or so ) wet or dry paper sand the end.

Using a glove, palm the sand paper and run the impact to spin the socket on the cup of your hand buffing the socket and end. THis takes a little bit of effort and will make the socket really shiny on the end.

The smooth and rounded end will not MAR the finish on wheels if you bump the surface while working. Chrome sockets arnt to be used with an impact and will not sand well due to the hardness of the chrome finish.

There are a few photos included as eye candy to show what it looks like. If your using spacers like Iam, then the use of 2 wheel starter bolts is recommended.

I first started posting on the forum with the starter bolts idea. THey are just bolts with the heads ground off to allow you to hang the wheel.

Thanks Prof! I will do that this weekend.

Question, when you polished your custom intake manifolds, will the same process work on the origional intakes? I would like to try and "polish" mine if possible.

You can polish the stockers easy piezie, but there is effort. I now have my Brown lung degree in buffing and can throw up lots of pointers. But hold on that one for a bit, I have lots more to say about the manifolds and you all have not seen the BIG change that Iam proposing after I get it on a dyno and track to test it.

The buffing is just for the heck of it, the real deal is in the internal modifications I have been testing.
