When you get stats saying the SRT does 0-100kms in 5.2 seconds then you look somewhere else and it says 4.7 seconds, then you get the auto magazines saying "Oh the VE is the first aussie built car to crack 0-100kms in under 5 seconds" I havent seen anything at the track that would crack 5 seconds fact is the G8 or VE is a pig, its big, heavy and slow. the reason I dont care about stats is because on paper the R8 should keep up if not BEAT the SRT, so you tell me why I smashed him? maybe he wasn't the best driver but that would make a minor difference not 3 + car lengths. But hey it is what it is, each to there own I guess.

WOW, i have to stay off the caliber srt-4 forums... a G8 vs. an srt-6??? had to be the gxp, as the other models are slow grand prix's. why even start a thread on this.... my VERY modded srt-4 caliber can ALMOST keep up with an srt-6, yet it SMOKES all model of the g8(except the gxp)....

come on. classic RARE car vs a larger grand am. I feel like i should put my jean jacket on and get into my '92 Chevy Beretta.

The Gxp uses the LS3 but the last generation HSV that was pumping out 307kw. The Gxp weighs an extra 60kg to the HSV R8 so i guess that explains the slightly slower time. Ive raced a few and never had a problem stock or modded. Im more worried about Ford to be honest. Theres some quick worked XR6 Turbos going around.

Thats what I've been trying to tell everyone, the FG Thypoon is a monster but I've seen so many BA/BF XR6 turbos do high 11's at my local q/mile track. But the G8 is just rubbish I cant believe they think there in the same catagory as AMG technology.

So you definitely think the xr6 is more of a worry than the xr8?
They're both slower than us stock though right?

The XR6 Turbo and XR8 in the BA/BF series are fairly close "stock" but the XR6 Turbo does have the slight advantage being lighter. Once you start modding them the XR8 gets BLOWN out of the water wouldn't keep up even if you supercharged it. as for the new series the FG XR6 turbo is leagues above the FG XR8 in stock form, theres talk that the XR8 may get phased out.

I'm not sure who you were refering to but I'm from Geelong, Victoria about 40 mins from Melbourne. I've noticed your from QLD which is where my SRT came from

xr6 xr8???... where are those cars?... am I really that ignorant or am I just blind?... I'm in California and I swear I never saw anything like an "el camino" style ford on the street... please tell me I have nothing to worry about where I run...
if this car:

ever runs faster than me at the track, I promise I will sell my beautiful srt-6 and buy a... a... real truck?...
hideous pieces of **** those "cars" are... So happy they don't sell in the US.

Well your looking at the BF XR8 there, it features a 5.7 LTR V8, you wouldn't have to worry about that comming anywhere near an SRT, its its little brother the XR6 Turbo which would worry you. They look much nicer in real life that picture doesnt do it justice. But a new model has since been realsed which looks much nicer then that. And no offence but your "pick ups" are just big and out there, our "ute" is a perfect mixture between a sedan and a "pick up" there very popular in Australia.

dude...i'm in calif too (actually, lived in sacto while attending grad school) and yes ford and gm make other kinds of cars in the world.

the aussie "utes" are the same as el caminos and rancheros that used to be made here. ya know, while i'm at it, those funky a$$ alfa romeos (ie; our new chrysler bros.) will be a welcome addition to our rather narrow usa driving experience.

Too right that shape is really really ugly, never been a fan but the new series are a massive improvement and very popular here. Cosmeticaly they look alot more aggressive. Here is the updated ute and sedan..

Incidently i raced HSV R8 the other night. Black one with the bonnet scoops, plates and rims. Not sure what mods he had it was really loud at idle. Gave him 3 runs from a roll. Beat him easily the 1st two times.

Finaly we lined up at 80ks i was in 3rd and thought ill just leave it and see how we go. We were even to about 120ks then i slowly started pulling and got a couple cars on him by the time we hit 150ish or so.
3rd gear comes in at 115ks which is when i think my srt started to pull.
After that he didnt want to play any longer, so he did his 'ricer' fly by

To this date ive only lost to a C63, 135i in stock form only from a dig, Worked XR6 Turbo Ute and an Evo 8 with every mod possible other than a new turbo, he beat me by a car in stock form. No chance now.
I still think the SRT6 is the best bang for your buck if u want a fast car

Hrmm you sure that wasn't the Wilkenshaw? sounds alot like it lol but yeah R8's are nothing the one I raced would have been completly stock and I embaressed him.

Did you install your code3 pully? I wanted to get one but apparently theres alot of different versions, I dont want to waste my money!!

Did you notice much power increase with your SL55 intake?

Well at first i thought it was so i was really keen!
I couldnt hear a supercharger and if you remember the top gear episode of the Walkinshaw you will remember how loud the supercharger whine was.

I have no idea what people do to their V8s here for mods but im pretty sure it wasnt Supercharged..

If you go to their website you will see the supercharger pulley. Its tittled as 'Performance Supercharger Pulley'

Intake gains was good. I was lucky enough to have a mate with a 135i and we are very close in stock form so i got to really see how many gains i got.
With the SL55 Intake i noticed atleast 2 car lengths improvement to 100ks.
My gains seemed to come down low, on a roll against the 135i i didnt notice any difference from when i was stock.

Pulley has given me up to two cars as well but the difference is im pulling from a roll as well. I have belt slipping issues sometimes primarily when im on and off the throttle to quickly, other than that its been great. Also note the gains to the pulley would have been enhanced by having a intake

From being two cars behind in stock form from a dig to a 135i i am now two cars ahead to 100.

Yeah the Wilkenshaw definatly whines you would know it if one of them was next to you.

I'm still skeptical with the pully, but I'd love to get the SL 55 intake, I'll just have to find one at a Mercedes wreckers otherwise I wouldn't even dare ask for a price of a new one. If I get my hands on a SL55 intake I think I'll get a powerchip tune and take out my rear cats and resonator and it should make a good difference!

135i would be quicker then the 335i? or not really?

The 335i weighs an extra 60-80kg depending on where you source the specs. The 135i should be faster by a car or two.

But the 09 version 335 has the new 7speed transmission which is better.
To get an idea..

The new Z4 weighs more than the 335i but my friend who was lucky enough to have a demo over night ripped the same PB 4.9 (not broken in) as he has managed with his 135i..

So I think for sure the 09 335i is faster
