Altenator ? BS
The stealership is trying to tell me that there or were two different altenators for the SRT6. The earlier models are different than the later models produced. I find this very hard to believe. Does anyone have any information concerning this issue.
Also I am patiently waiting for a new supercharger. The supercharger is on national backorder. The sc pulley bearing is bad. That is the reason for the new complete supercharger.
They have had the car for 3 1/2 weeks. I am very close to going over and picking up the car and taking it to another dealer.
On the positive they have been renewing the rental .The SRT is on an extended Chrysler warranty.

That was the same info I was asked for when I was pricing alternators, is it a Bosch or a Valeo. Apparently there is a difference....but not sure if it is fit or rating...

My supercharger was replaced last Dec. and they had the SRT back in 4 days.
ps. I have a supercharger with the pulley that I bought on ebay this past year. It's with my other xf stash. Just in case this happens again in the future (10 years when no parts are available). Always be prepared.
56$ shipped gets you a new pulley bearing and a press gets it in the pulley in minutes. better than having your ride down for weeks on end. save the warrenty for the big dollar stuff

Hi Guys and Gals.... been a while since I've been on the forum, but seems like all the great folks are still here.
So, my alternator has died, and I was looking for a replacement. I've read through the forum posts that speak on
this subject, and I was sure to get an alternator (Valeo, which is what I had stock) that had the proper fitting for
the power cable. So, I got one from Autoparts Warehouse, which had the correct power cable configuration and
thought it was all good. Their site listed this for All Crossfire models 2004 to 2008, All sub-models.
Just got this thing in via UPS today, and taking it out of the box, it is apparently configured for that power lead,
but the connectors are not in the same location with respect to the mounting bolt hole flanges, then, I notice that
the pulley is not as wide nor has as many grooves as the original unit. I might be able to work around these
difference is I can swap the pulley from my original to the new, and maybe swap out the back plastic cover with
the original. Not sure if either of those is doable.
Of course, I can always send this back as being the wrong part (and not being all sub-models of Crossfire). I
would then need to try to get a proper replacement. Anyone know where one of these can be found. Looking
for some advice.
Thanks,
Coyote

It is my understanding there are two alternators for the Crossfire, but I can't remember what the differences are all about. Is it that the SRT6 takes a different one - or is it that later years used a different one?
Hi PizzaGuy, yes there is a Bosch and a Valeo. My SRT6 came with the Valeo, so figured I'd replace it with a Valeo. Besides, the quote I got for a Bosch was enough to make me choke (around $900). I had figured, when the description of the one I got said, "All Crossfire models 2004 - 2008, All sub-models", I thought it should be correct But, seems it is not. May be a different one for the SRT6. Think I'll call Autoparts Warehouse and ask them about it.
I was wondering if I could just swap a couple of parts between the new one and the old one, such as the pulley and the plastic cover on the back. Don't want to mess with that unless I know it is acceptable, as I'd not want to send back the one I just got if I've done any disassembly.
Thanks,
Coyote
Thanks for the response, in any case. So, how many miles on that crossie now? More than 94K? I've got 130K+ on mine. Want to put more on it, but she don't run so well without an alternator.

I believe somewhere here someone modified the wiring connections on their harness to fit the alternator that did not fit their harness, I'd get the proper alternator and specify it should have the eight ribbed pulley on it.

Hiya onehundred80,
Thanks for your response and the link. I believe that was one of the thread
The Valeo unit you have in those pictures matches the one that was originally installed in my car.
I'll try to upload a pic of the one I got, just to let folks see it. I'll do a side-by-side with original so the difference is clear. I'll be calling the place I got this one from tomorrow, and seeing if they have the proper item, or if I should just send it back. Though, there is that possibility of swapping the pulley from the original to the new and swapping the back plastic plate from original to new. Don't know if that is doable, but it is under consideration.

This is the two alternators, the first two pics are the Bosch and the second two are the Valeo.

I've ordered stuff from Auto Parts Warehouse (.com) for my SRT-6 and have received the wrong stuff even though their website says it fits. They have no idea what an SRT-6 is or what fits it. Their customer service reps, while courteous, don't know much about cars. They read from a script and will ask for your VIN and then offer you the same part (which was wrong in the first place). My issue was with air filters so I got on their site and looked up the filters for a 2004 C32 AMG and found what I was looking for. Might this work for your alternator? I don't know if that car uses the same as ours, but someone on here might know that.
