Rough Idle
Hi All,
I have had my Xfire SRT-6 for 3 months now and love it, last month I starting having an annoying idle issue. I started the car and it sounded like it was running on a few cylinders short and rocked from side to side. I turned off the car and started it again, all good.
Last week I came to a round about and the car just died, started it up and the same thing (WTF). I managed to drive/crawl down the road and parked.
I called the AA after the 5th attempt, hour later the AA arrived and the problem had gone. He checked for a error code but nothing. I called the Chrysler dealer and managed to get the car in that day.
They said that the couldnt find any issues but had replaced the plugs.
Last night the car did the same thing at a traffic light, this time put the car in Park and it was fine. This morning after driving 30 mins or so parked at the shops for 5 mins started the car and again very rough idle, misfiring and the rock. Had to start the car 3 times before it was OK.
I did think fuel the first time, but now dont think this is the case as it has happened at all fuel levels and I have filled 2 or 3 times.
ANY HELP PLEASE.
Thanks
Gareth

Make sure that all of the plugs are seated nice and tight in your ecu. On 2 different occasions I have dropped cylinders and gotten a misfire code. Fixed both times after unplugging ecu and making sure to replugin nice and tight. Since your problem seems to correct itself this is probably not what is bothering your car but you never know.
It might not throw a code... mine did, but others didn't... there are a couple of good threads here on the crank position sensor... just put that in the search and you should get lots of info...
Hi All,
Thanks for all the help, the vehicle has been booked in for a week with the dealers to do a full scan. I mentioned all your thoughts and they have said it doesnt sound like the crank sensor due to no issues restarting just very bad mis-fire with power loss. The car did it again today after trying to accelate from a light. Sort of died and then suddenly full power which makes me think fuel again.
Will see what they can find.
Thanks

For some reason my initial reaction was clogged/blocked fuel injector causing a cylinder to go lean...next was the aprk plugs not causing spark, you could identify this by checking your tail pipes for excessive black residue on the edge (not interor, that is painted black on the SRT). It does sound somewhat like CPS, but you are right that if you have had no restarting issues it is not likely the cause.
Under wide open throttle I blew the air intake temperature sensor loose. The car ran like $hit, would not idle, and threw a bunch of codes. Does not sound like your problem unless it is a slight leak. Anyway, have them check and make sure all the sensors in the intake path are tight.
HOW ABOUT CHECKING THE FUEL FILTER, WHEN YOU STOP AND THINK ABOUT IT OUR CARS ARE 2005-6, ALOT OF THEM SAT AROUND FOR TWO YEARS BEFORE THEY WERE SOLD.I ASSUME THE GAS LAYING IN THAT FILTER WOULD GUM UP. JUST MY 2 CENTS WORTH. ILLCYA
