Default SRT-6 Questions

Hello all,

I am considering to buy a used 2005 SRT-6 Crossfire in the next month or so and I had some questions and concerns about the vehicle and reliability.

I have done some research but wanted to come directly to other owners on certain things I am still not certain about.

1. If you could let me know of any major flaws (if any) with the 2005 model I should be concerned about.
- Such as transmission failure
- Auto stick issues
- Anything really that can help me make my decision clearer.

2. How do you like your SRT-6?

3. How much space is in the back of it and if I could actually fit some items back there if I need to.

4. What kind of vehicle mods are available and the difficulty of modding on the SRT-6 is like.

I appreciate everyone checking out and helping me make my decision!

Thanks.

- Such as transmission failure There have been some issues with the spider gears in the differentials failing, but only for those owners who drag race their SRTs on a very regular basis.
- Auto stick issues The only issue some will say is the lack of gear changing under certain throttle pressures. This can be alleviated by performing a throttle reset and the instrutions can be found here using the search function.
- Anything really that can help me make my decision clearer.

Love it, absolutely fantastic car. Best bang for you buck by far.

3. How much space is in the back of it and if I could actually fit some items back there if I need to.
You can fairly easily fit a couple sets of golf clubs in the back or enough luggage for a weekend roadtrip.

4. What kind of vehicle mods are available and the difficulty of modding on the SRT-6 is like.
Modifications for the vehicle are not as extensive as some other Import cars (i.e. Nissan/Honda/blah blah blah) and the modifications for this car are not cheap. If you are interested in modifying the SRT-6 then I would suggest reading this thread: https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...7-newbies.html

My personal preference: Needswings Dual CAI, 181/185mm Crank Pulley, Eurocharged ECU Tune, and then also Eurocharged Heat Exchanger or Needswings Supercooler.

I appreciate everyone checking out and helping me make my decision!

Thanks.

Haha, is the roadster a convertible? The one I'm looking at is a coupe.

You can fit a golf bag in the passenger seat!

I have a Prius as my daily driver, so the SRT sits in a garage for the times I'm ready to have some fun. Having identified it as a second car, I would not recommend as daily driver status. Others will disagree and that is fine, but the suspension to a bit to rough for me every day, the car sits low, and storage is compromised. But don't get me wrong, there's a word that lives in this forum: permagrin. It's what you get each and every time you drive it!

That's my assessment for you in the hopes that you make the right decision.

My SRT is a daily driver simply because once you drive one you will NOT want to leave it resting in the garage, getting lonely !
I bought my SRT with a little over 9K on the odometer - it now has over 82,000 & it has been the best performing & most reliable car I have ever owned. Besides the IC pump & the crank position sensor (both known issues) the engine has been flawless. I've driven it in -20 degree below zero weather (oh man, you guys think the ride is stiff now.......), through snow (though not often - that's why everyone who lives in snow country should have a winter beater), through just about everything & it has never left me stranded.
Nos, the Z-man (BTW, Z, thanks for the shout out to the Newbies link ) has answered your queries correctly - there truly isn't much to worry about!
I guess it's just tough to beat a hand-built engine!!!

Good luck & don't hesitate - buy one now, you will not regret it!

I say,"buy one!". I wouldn't have any concerns about reliability. I beat on ours pretty hard. You won't find another sportscar with this much torque in such a small engine. The suspension is stiff, but I find it fine for everyday driving. We can cary a whole weeks groceries in the back with no problem. If you have a problem with driving the speed limit, don't buy one!

You should by an srt-6 immediately. I've had mine for almost a year and i only drive it on weekends. I really wouldnt use this car as a daily.... For one its made to perform and enjoy. Not to sit at street light and bake in the sun on the parking lot. This car is easily the best kept secret. No one knows about it and with a few mods it can hurt a lot of feelings. I say u look for a stock one with low miles. Enjoy!

All I can add is that if you find a good SRT-6 that you like, buy it. They are getting harder and harder to find.

So your saying if no one knows the answer to anything you shouldn't ask? I mean...you have two and should probably know more than most people. I'm not a pro driver or what not as some of you may be but there are things you just can't expect to know when your not very familiar with a certain product. I know a lot about Dodge and there SRT and there past history on parts and failure but I really don't know anything about Mercedes and the mix between them and Chrysler.

Anyways, thanks to everyone else for your responses.

Love the ones I've had.
If you don't Rod the He!! out of one take good care including scheduled maint. and have limited friends that want to ride along with you...
GET IT!
If I could buy another SRT I would be after a Bones stock factory complete one and leave it at that being they are becoming far more rare than they were a short time ago. For every part I replace or alter I keep or even buy a new one so I could return it to exact factory stock in a matter of several days.
The Crossfire especially the SRT is a totally under appreciated automobile that never got it's chance to shine.

Buy it! I bought mine in October of 2004, and have driven it daily since
then. Best danged car I've ever owned. I've put nearly 90K miles on the
car since I've bought it, and have experienced a few of the problems that
others have pointed out. Those were no big deal for me, as I had the
warranty cover the work.

There is one drawback to the car, depending upon how you look at it. I've
gotten a lot more exercise, due to walking so far from where I park to the
entrance of the stores I visit.

This is good for the wife and I. Our goal this year is to get below the Combined Recommended Payload of our SRT6 (a mere 415#) HaHa! We have 22# to go. Maybe I'll just buy one of those lighter weight Batteries that some of you have used to lighten the load at the drag strip; sure would be easier! LOL

Today could be your lucky day I have a beautiful Silver Saphire Blue SRT6 for sale. It already has a tune on it and I could have it tweaked for your potential mods. 34000 miles run and drives like new. 16995 what a deal.

This is NOT Dodge and their SRT line; it AMG!!!! Hand-built and tested to the MAX. There is ZERO "mix" in this car. ALL German here---no mixing!!!! I had a N/A for three years. I have bought and sold six other N/As---all great cars. Just stepped up the the SRT-6 in April, but before I did, I was like you and asked questions and checked this forum, as well as, MB world (SLK32---same car). You WILL be happy, so just do it, if you want one!! Lower mileage cars will get harder and harder to find, so if you are EVEN thinking about buying---pull the trigger. You will not regret it!!!!!!
