I never thought this point would come, but I need some advice on possibly selling my SRT…here is my predicament:
I bought my SSB srt-6 convertible a couple years ago with only 4600 miles on it for just over $22500. It now has only 12000 miles and is in almost perfect shape with navigation and the chrysler maxcare warrantee (through 2014 I believe.)
I live in Iowa so it is really only usable from maybe Apr/May to Oct/Nov every year and takes up my single car garage the remaining winter months…kind of a pain shoveling out the other car, but worth it in the summer!
I have a 2004 chevy Malibu maxx with just over 64000 miles as a daily driver and that is needing some brake and suspension work soon ($1200+) and have been kicking around the idea of getting rid of the SRT and Malibu and getting a mid/large SUV (Pilot/Venza/Highlander…) I also just bought a home last fall so bills are a little higher than they have been for me in the past…I’m not in a situation where I HAVE to sell now or am struggling financially, but lower monthly payments and lower insurance would definatly help out…
After talking to a couple dealerships, to no surprise, trade in value of the SRT is lower than I’d like ($16-18k) and I don’t think I’d have much trouble selling it and then putting the cash and Malibu trade towards the new vehicle.

Here are my questions:
What do you think a dealership would ask for the SRT on the lot? I was thinking of listing at $23k and seeing if I could get a $21k+ offer…Is that a fair price for something this rare/low miles?

With the low miles I put on this car, how much do you think I will be losing on value every year I keep it? Any prediction on what the value will be over the next few years?

If you had a dealer offer you $18k for trade that is very decent IMHO. I bought mine privately from the original owner this past February with 9k miles and I paid less than that. Granted, it took me a year to find that deal, but most of them that I was considering at that time were priced between $18k and $20k.

This one didn't sell, but the eBay bids petered out at just over $18k.......

21K would be a fair price...... if car is in great shape. That's about 40% of original price! That's up to you and the buyer.

Just need to mention that Chrysler max care warranties are only transferable ONCE. So if you already have had it transferred to you, even thru a dealer, it can't be transferred again. If you were the original purchaser of the warranty, no problem. Check your contract and/or call Chrysler and double check if needed. If it is transferable check on all fine print on transferring to a new owner. A transferable warranty is a valuable perk.

As far as future "cost" of ownership, our SRT roadsters will always be in demand as long as they're in great shape and maintained. Hopefully the market has bottomed out on them (hear that up there?), but might a little while before starting to see a real upturn. Just my $.02

 

Another option would be to rent some space for the winter for the SRT-6 with a friend/neighbor that has a 2 car garage and only one car. Keep the Malibu in your garage for daily driving until summertime. A good friend/neighbor won't even charge you for the space. Hey, give it a shot. Of course, if insurance is killing you, then consider going with no-collision coverage during the winter (and don't drive it), then switch back to full coverage in the summer/fall for the SRT-6. Liability-only coverage is only a couple hundred a year.
