Default Crossfire In the snow

Was just wondering how they handle in snow, ice? Just got mine a few months ago so I don't know how it will do? Anyone have problems getting around in the winter?

I had the same quetions you did when I first thought about buying this car.
However I still have not driven my car in bad weather, I actually just picked up my car this past monday and haven't driven it at all because of some nasty weather. Overall though the consensus was to have a beater car for the cruddy months while the x-fire sleeps off the hard springs, summers, and falls that I'll put it thotugh. It might not be financially perfect to have a beater, but to force a SRT6 through the snow is just not right!

I've driven mine the last 3 winters with blizzak snow tires on all 4 wheels. It does pretty good for a sports car and I've had to drive in some really bad storms.

I've had two limited Xfires that I drove all year round in Michigan. Although I didn't have snow tires, I kept a 70lbs sand bag in the trunk for winters. The weight helps and I figure if/when I get stuck, I can use the sand and spread it around for traction.

Well, I never had to use the sand but I was slipping and sliding all the time. It was fun actually, I had a blast driving the car in snow, as long as I didn't need to be anywhere at a given time. I would imagine snow tires would go a long way in helping the situation.

If it was an SRT, I wouldn't even try to do winters. It takes too much to throttle control even in the rain (to some extend).

Basically, my verdict is yes, Crossfires are decent in snow... as long as you're careful and remember there's no defying the laws of physics.

As with any rear drive vehicle all have some problems, but the xfire is a decent car in the winter with the correct tires, the snow tires are the best to have, the xfires do slip some, but starting off in second gear helps, I had michelins the first set and they where terible in the snow, then I had conti's which where way better and now I have generals uhp's and did good last winter, I also live in Michigan, but wont take the xfire out on really bad days/deep snow and such.

My Crossfire held up really well to the harsh Minnesota winter I subjected it to after purchasing my NA in December. I threw on some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires, 140 lbs of sand in the trunk, and I was ready to rock. The only times I got stuck were when I encountered snow that any other car would get stuck in.

I use the blizzaks 225/40/18 and 255/35/19 oem size on a set of regular Crossfire rims for my SRT 6.

I still can't believe people are saying these cars are "decent" in the snow. ANYTHING over a few inches and you can forget it with this car. I have a 1989 Plymouth Sundance for the ice/snow/salt and other nasty things winter provides here in NE.

I would drive it in the snow because I simply cannot go six months of the year not driving it.We get weather here that can be sunny and nice in the morning, and snowing hard at the evening rush hour. I would only drive it in less than 4" of snow. I do know rear wheel drive cars quite well.I have driven Mustangs,G35 coupe,135I,Camaro,Corvette ect. I will get dedicated snow tires for it. Im not looking to use it as a mountain ski trip car just a commuter when necessary.

Last year central Virginia had the winter that I was used to in New England - SNOW! 3 storms at 12" each -
My Crossfire runs on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's - and I will tell you - there is NO and I mean NO TRACTION when it snows. These tires are truly summer performance tires only. And to be honest - I am not sure how well the Crossfire would do with all season tire mounted - If I were still in New England I would put snows on the car and hope for the best. Or get a snow car

I don't have snow tires for mine. I had it out once in the snow once because the weather man said the snow wouldn't start for a few hours, and I believed him. Was inside a building and didn't realize the snow had started, by the time I got outside there were a couple of inches on the ground. As you can guess the PS2s are like slicks in the snow. Had to park it and get a ride home. When it snows now I just stay home! Figured it's not worth buying another vehicle for the few days a year we get snow (St. Louis).

I bought a set of Blizzaks. I let the Tire Rack pick the wheel sizes & all 4 were 18" rims. She did fine through a Milwaukee winter. Run her through the car wash regularly to keep the salt accumulation down and you'll do fine. Pics of the tires & wheels are in my gallery.
