Need some help, could it be the intercooler pump?

Default Need some help, could it be the intercooler pump?

Today I was doing some spirited driving with a friend, and the car sureged, or more like the car "shaked".

I suspect it could be the IC PUMP that could be the problem, as it happens when you take your foot of the accelerator after accelerating hard (using some higher RPM then what i do driving normally). Could it be a sign of the IC pump going bad?

First it was working fine, but after a long hard acceleration to around 120mph, then hit the brake, accelerated again, foot slight of accelerator to do some cruising, the surge started... then again at higher RPM during the drive, it feels like it "surges" when the supercharger engages/disengages after the spirited driving. Normal "easy" driving no problem....even with occasional pedal to the metal, this happens after some more excessive driving at high speed, not every time but occasionally. Need some suggestions on how to solve the issue or could a replacement IC pump solve the issue (cooling problem?)

The car has done 8000 miles

Thanks!

Could be the intake air temp sensor is to blame.

next time it happens get to shoulder turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. reach inside the small door in the fenderwell and feel for the pump. it will remaining running once it starts until the engine is shut off. if its not running then the pump is the culprit!

Maybe...Hopefully it is that or the intercooler pump. The car normally runs very well, but I don't drive so spirited every day (120mph), but when I do, this problem sometimes occurs. I hope it is an easy fix, with some sensor or pump replacement. I'm very happy to get suggestions, as I'm going to order "the parts" from Needswings, if I only could locate the problem.

if its the pump and you choose a cm30 johnson pump apeusa.com has the best prices. if you choose the lightning bosch pump needswings is the place to go. parts.com has the iat sensor for about 25$ shipped

btw 120mph isnt really considered "spirited driving" in a srt-6!!!

Anyone ever tried to I/C pump from a Porche Cayenne? I had one laying around, so I ised it instead of the others normally used. I could not find the flow for it anywhere, but I was pretty sure it was more than my broken one was pushing. LOL So far, it seems fine and no problems, but I have only had about 5k on it. Since the diameter was smaller, I had to wrap it to use the factory mount, but it does seem to do the job. I am enbarassed to share the wrap idea I used, but it was a last minute ghetto job with a shop rag. LOL I thinkl the pump was only 80 bucks new. I was going to use it for a sprayer set-up. A totally different project, but it was not necessary. I am glad I found a good use for it. LOL

would need to find some part # for the pump to research the flow rates. as long as it is ok for coolant use it should be fine.
remove the rag and use a 2$ bicycle tube cut to fit and wrap it around the pump to fit it in the oem rubber sleeve

Does the intake air temp sensor regulate more than just that. When I come to think about it, my A/C (Air conditioner) does not seem to work properly, when pushing the "snow flake" button I was hoping to get some really cold air thou the air vents, but it it is not as cold as I would like it to be, more like just a little bit colder the the regular air (but you can hear the A/C working, today it was 85F). Just a thought....

My car had the surge right before the pump went out.
Next symptom will be the "flat line" when you floor it.
No get up and go.

no. iat sensor monitors intake temps for the s/c. a/c issue is most likley low freon

Do you hear the radiator fan kick on high speed?
Also a somewhat common issue is a fan not running correctly. (unplugged or even plug reversed)

Thanks for all of your advice, this car is quite rare in sweden, so it is hard do get some good advice. I'm ordering a new Bosch intercooler pump, as well as a new intake air temp sensor. If anyone else have some thought as to what might be the issue, please feel free to respond, as I'm going to leave the car at a garage, and then tell them to look into it, but as this car is quite rare I think it is easier if I have a few suggestions on how to fix the issue. Thanks!

Have you checked the IC Pump fuse? Just had to replace mine and it was doing the surge also.

I have been reading up on the forum for "misfires" and there are several which have a problem around 100mph doing (3000-3500rpm) and that is just when I encounter my problem. I think I'm going to take the car to the dealership to see if the car med any error codes, and have them disconnect the ECU and put all the wires back to see if there is problem there (bad connections). The more I read about the problem I'm starting to believe it is faulty sensor somewhere, the question is which, normally I don't do over 80mph and never encounter any problems.

Found this for example on the MB forum "The problem wasn't a misfire, turns out the transmission ECU was sending signals to the torque converter instructing it to lock" or " faulty 02 sensor was causing cyl 1, 3, 4 to misfire, weird. Didn't think it could do that".

Thanks !!
