Question Help! Question regarding my I/C pump replacement

I'm in the process of removing the OEM pump to replace it with the Bosch I got from Needswings. I noticed a small (1/4" +/-) hose coming out of the back of the existing pump (maybe some vacuum line?). The Bosch doesn't have a plug for it. Where am I supposed to reconnect it to the Bosch pump?

Here's a photo of what I'm referring to. I've disconnected the hose from the OEM pump. The new pump does not have a port to reconnect it. I've have not seen this mentioned in any of the DYI write-ups I've found.

Unfortunately i can't see or feel where it goes. I'm thinking it's not needed either but nobody has mentioned it.

OK thanks! I wonder why the old pump needed it but the new one doesn't?

OK, thanks buddy. It always bothers me to start a project knowing all parts aren't going to reconnect the same as before. It's all set and ready do in the morning.

I was reading an old thread, and it is the breather tube....I had the johnson pump ready to put on the coupe, and remembered the hose size difference, so I put that project off....because I wasn't prepared...lol

Really, it looked like it might be too much to clamp down...I will remember that when the dreaded pump finally fails...

It's ironic that you guys should mention this. This evening I found a thread that explained that the subject tube is a breather tube. The Bosch pump has vented openings on the backside to eliminate the need for the breather tube.

But I also noticed that the OEM hoses looked larger than the ports on the Bosch pump. The pump came with one screw band hose clamp. It's looking like I did the right thing to pick up another one today.

the breather vac port is not needed on the new pump, the line vents to atmosphere in the engine bay. you can remove the vac line or just leave it as its not in the way for anything.

the hose clamp on the pump was put there by me, you need that for that connection as it is ~ 1mm smaller OD and the factory clamp is questionable on that one, hence we included a hose clamp for ya. the other port is the same as factory and can use the factory clamp. i'll do a writeup

FAILED!

After spending countless hours trying the get the stupid clamps off the OEM hoses, I gave up and put everything back together. The clamps were turned in a position where I was working blind.

I was accessing it through the wheel well, and I know that if I removed the front bumper I would have much better access. But I'm just not comfortable risking scratching up the bumper.

So it looks like now I'm hoping I can find a mechanic that will install the I/C pump that I provide. The independent MB shop I've gone to once before will only install products they provide.

ARG!

you dont have to take the bumper off. remove the pass. wheel and then remove the front inner fender . its about 6 or 8 screws and bolts. once its out you have a ton of room to work in. also the oem clamps suck so just twist them off and replace them with worm clamps

Steve is right, it's 2 torx screws and 4 plastic top hats (plastic nuts that look like top hats when you get them off). You'll have to remove the splash shield to get to two of the hats. I have one sitting in my garage so if you need photo's I can get you some.

Edit: after rereading your post I realize you're not trying to remove the pump through the wheel well door. My bad
