Default BMW 135i

Has anybody driven or raced one before? I can beat my mates stock 135i some what comfortably but he has now just bought and instaled JB3 plug and play, apparently these cars are detuned a fair bit and big gains come from JB3. 80hp or so. Anybody here have any experiance or know anybody with a 135i with a jb3. I think it should be a really close race, what do u guys think will happen?

My son has driven just about every BMW - he was a lot boy for a dealership for about 6 mths so he drove a lot of them. the 135i was one of his favorites. We went and looked at one on Monday, he was interested. The price tag was a bit out of his league but a beautiful car and in his words "scary fast". He will be picking up a new Genesis next week.

lacer... get your ECU tuned and you will get more out of your baby... I have no experience with racing BMW's.... I can tell you what happens to Mustangs, Challengers, Chargers and a bunch of others...

Yeah they are very good cars last year i booked a one hour test drive of a 135i and i was very impressed. They get 400nm at 1300rpm so they make for very responsive cars

Miker I would at some point love a tune I just really enjoy the power I have at the moment. Its deffinately something i would want to do in the future. With a tune i would be quicker than a tuned 135i but it should be close with my current mods im thinking

a JB3 (or eurocharged) tuned 135i will leave the crossfire behind quickly.....tuned or not if the driver knows what they are doing. Our turbo xfire could keep up with our 135i but only for a while...

I have a buddy who had one with jb3 but and earlier version i beleive( he said he needed an update) they are quick cars and would be evenly matched with our cars mod for mod. My old stock turbo srt-4 would wreck it easily. I raced on at the track with my srt-6 and have it on vid. Easy kill even with my horrible times. But i know the driver needed some seat time. Stock they are low 13 sec cars at about the same mph as our srt crossfires. They do however have more aftermarket support so im sure there are many 11 sec stock turbos 135i's

What are the dyno numbers on a tuned 135i with no other mods? 345whp? Is map 4 the highest u can run without a fmic/intake?

They average about 12.4-12.5@112ish with just a tune. Some have gone 12.0@115 with weight reduction and race gas.
With a couple bolt on supporting mods and race gas they can easily run high 11's and trap 116-118.
If he is on Map5(pump gas tune) it should be a good race.

I would run against one in the Street car sport tuner class that had, raised boost, intake, tune, upgraded FMIC and he ran12.2-12.1 at about 117. To my 12.0 @115 runs. I think on a longer run the 135i might pull on the crossifre but in the 1/4 i had him every time.

*edit* he also ran on drag radials vs my Nitto NT555 streets. But I became a master at good launches on hard street tires with the 6 at the track after many many launches.

I had a 2008 135I for two years and 18000 miles. It was a 6 speed manual pretty much a base car with just a few options. The car had chronic high pressure fuel pump issues it went through 3 of them. The fuel pump issues ranged from the car going into limp mode or on one occasion getting on the freeway it just died. On another bad pump it would just not restart at the grocery store had to have it towed in. Performance wise I have had both it ,and the SRT6 at the track. The BMW was stock except for bfg drag radials, and a K& N filter. With the manual transmission it would not hook up with the stock tires. The SRT6 is stock except for the Needswings cai. The 1/4 mile times for these cars is almost identical. The BMW was faster @ 60' with the drag radials(1.9 vs 2.20). The SRT6 had a higher top end speed(103 vs 99) and it liked the end of the track better. I would say an auto 135I especially one with a chip will be faster, and win a drag race. What I found interesting was the 135I feels way faster the turbos really come on and give the impression of fast acceleration. The SRT6 is deceiving it just doesn't feel as fast as it is. I raced at Bandimere Speedway where the air is thin an average DA there is 8000'+. My corrected time in both cars was 13.3.

Modlessg my mate just recently got his fuel pump replaced, he was having long cranks for quite some time. He has an auto and can go full throttle from a dig perfectly every time

I finaly got to race him tonight, On map 3 and 5 i was able to beat him comfortably. Map 7 which is as high as he can go without more supporting mods was very interesting. From a dig he beats me comfortably i just cant get off the line as quickly as he does, he pulls and just keeps pulling away.

From a roll we were dead even when timed perfectly but so many other times who ever would punch it first would take the win. The difference in timing was so minimal but proved to really alter the result. His car still has to adapt on map 7 so id say in a couple days time he potentialy will be quicker. We were just amazed out of all the possible outcomes it turned out to be dead even. Time to get a tune!

My Beef with BMW was their policy to stall the fuel pump replacement. The first time a customer takes it in they do a quick test and send them on their way. The second time the car comes in it gets the computer update. Then the third time you actually get the new pump.My understanding is the Bosch pump is on the third generation with the fourth in development. Because of the bad pumps I also had two injectors go bad which fouled a couple spark plugs. To top it off when I turned in the car as it was a lease. BMW nicked me for damage to the bottom of the front air dam. It had small scratches that were only visible when the car was on a lift. They also tried to charge me for a lost owners manual which was in the car when I turned it in. Your friend is at risk of loosing his warranty using an aftermarket chip, and should be careful to remove it when going in for service.
