Default Crossfire wannabe

I just got rid of an old MGTD that I had been driving around for 5 years. Decided to upgrade to a Crossfire. I'm about to buy a 2005 SRT Roadster. Dealer wants $18900 for a one owner car with 26000 miles. Very clean, comes with the Crossfire luggage even. I'm a bit worried about maintenance on a car with a supercharger though. It is a blast to drive. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

My advice? have a heckuva lot of fun! The IC pump will have to be replaced sooner or later but that's about the worst I've heard, I have an NA, and even that is not that big of a deal.

My advice is to tell me where it is, so I can buy it.LOL. Get a Carfax, and if it's clean, and everything seems to work(test drive and get it good and hot, watch the gauge),check for valve cover oil seepage(if there is,it's an easy fix, and you can use that to get the price down maybe). As you may know, these are well built cars. SC is basically a no maintenance thing. Very few have had to do a thing from what I gather. An occasional bearing($50.or so)and I've heard of bleeding out the oil in them after like 100k(sooner if your like me). But with the help of the members on this Forum, most everything you can accomplish yourself if your mechanically inclined. Even if your not, you'll at least be in the know so you won't be taken advantage of. Hopefully, that's the car w/ your name on it.

Thanks to both of you for your prompt reply. Any thoughts on an extended warranty?

That is a good price for a SRT Roadster with those miles. What color is it? My SRT Roadster has 27K miles, and I love it. They are fast cars and lots of fun to drive. If you are into performance mods, a CAI would probably be the first thing you will want to look at as the stock CAI is pretty restrictive. After that, a new SC or crank pulley and a ECU tune and you will have a beast.

I did drive it. You must be WA somewhere if you are close enough to look at it. I am up in Friday Harbor.

Nope. I am up in western Canada..

I am looking for a black srt convertible, and this one grabbed my attention. however I was selling my truck at the time, and although he made me a pretty good deal, the salel on my truck fell through, so I decided to wait on the srt..
My truck has since sold, and I am again looking, and keep coming back to this one, however it will cost me a few hundred just to fly down and have a look at it. there is a couple of things in the pictures that give me pause, but it's hard to tell details from poor pictures. it is also hard to tell the small things, like how does it drive.. from pictures..
I'll wait now that I know someone from the forum is looking at it, but if you don't deal, I would appreciate it if you could give me your opinion on the vehicle..

thanks

I'm seriously thinking of buying it. I am a Crossfire virgin so if you see something peculiar I would certainly appreciate a heads up.

I am new to crossfires as well..there will be others on this forum that can tell you specifics, but from what I have read, there should be NO issues with a 26000 mile car... so.. I was just looking at the general condition of the vehicle.. the things that I couldn't see clearly from the photos, but looked a little funny, were, left front, ahead of the tire, there seemed to be some damage, or perhaps the front facia pulling away.. why?? was my question.. had it hit a curb, etc.. there was some damage to the wheels from the old curb scuffing.. Non stock wheels..(although he said they had the factory wheels..). The brakes seemed to be quite worn on the front.. (again the pictures were not that clear) with that low of miles, the brakes should be almost new!!.... and inside, the drivers seat seemed to be quite worn, as were the carpets. . I was looking for a vehicle with low miles that had been taken care of.. this one didn't give me that impression from the photos, but after speaking with the salesman a few times, I could be wrong, because he was saying it was a premium vehicle that had been taken very good care of.. Seeing the vehicle in person, and driving it, would tell the story..I just never got that far!!..

now I realize this is a 5 year old car, but with only 26000 miles, it should be in top shape. and the price is in the upper end at 19000 as well.. again I was looking for a premium vehicle. my impression of this one from the photos, was it was a daily driver that might have had regular oil changes, but wasn't really taken care of that well... I talked to the salesman a few times, and he tried to send me pictures of everything, and answered my questions, but his idea of a premium vehicle, and mine might have been a little different.. however...If my truck would have sold (the person I sold it to, backed out) I would have flown down to look at this one.

hope this helps..
let me know what you think..

dale.

I guess what you saw as damage was mostly glare and reflection from lights. The car was in great shape. I had it checked out at a local garage. No damage (also same as stated in carfax), brakes in good shape as well as tires. No valve cover leakage, no leakage from intercooler. The story on the wheels is that the previous owner's husband found it hard to clean the factory wheels so got some with fewer spokes. True or not, who knows. I have both sets of wheels. The dealer was willing to deal, although it is always spooky dealing with car dealers, so I got it for considerably less than KBB. Drove it home yesterday and all is well so far.
Good luck with your search. I know it is a pain looking for these things, they often don't show up near you. We were just lucky with this one. I really wasn't looking for an SRT, but it sure is fun to drive.

I am glad it found a good home.

you got the wheels, and luggage, and the concerns I had were not there, then you got a very good car, at a good price.. congrats..
