SRT6, drive 130 mph 3 hours continuosly, okay for engine/SC?
Hi,
I drive my N/A for longer periods over 220 km/h (130 mph). Is it also possible for the SRT-6 without putting the S/C at risk? fuel consumption for the SRT6 compared to the N/A?

We don't have the luxury of continuous driving at that speed. Since this is based on an SLK320, I would assume the Germans designed and built it for contunuous high speed on the autobahn. If they did not, they would have governed it's top speed to something a lot lower. Just enjoy it, you lucky dude.
I haven't driven an SRT6 yet but I know the coupes can handle 130+ MPH quite well. I'm jealous that you get to do that without worrying about losing your license. We don't have that luxury here unfortunately.
I'd think the SRT6 should be able to handle those speeds just fine though.

Well, I am pushing 220 km/h for 3 hrs in Sweden. Question is though how the srt will handle it. The n/a is handling it just perfect. Srt fuel consumption at that speed?
im pretty sure it is actually a crime not to drive SRT6s at 130MPH
. the cars are made to be driven, and as long as the car isnt redlined, drive it as fast as you can handle it safely.

As I recall when I was in Sweden, the highways I was on had posted speed limits!

heatsoak will be your only enemy. if the s/c gets to hot the ecu will shut it down. fuel consumption? you can prolly watch the needle go down to empty!!
as an example my iat temps run 80*F lower than my engine temps. at wot the diff is almost nil

. I didn't realize you have access to roads that allow those speeds! Save your money and swing for the fences.
FUBU,
If you are worried about it, put some gauges in it to monitor the engine sensors. That is the only way to be sure.
I would also think about upgrading to a SL55 fuel pump. I vaguely remember that was an option for Euro spec SRT6 and SLK32AMG for sustained 150+ mph driving. Don't hold me to this one. I am looking for the article now. Will post up if/when I find it.
Like has been said above, heat will play a factor in your performance. Just be sure to use high octane fuel and enjoy your 130mph legal roads. I'm Jealous!!!!!
Cheers,

As Doc said, once at a "cruising" speed, the supercharger is disenguaged unless you try to speed up or go up an incline... So once at 130, it consumes fuel like an N/A. The only thing that would cause slightly less gas mileage, is the fact that the SRT has a 3.07 vs 3.27 gear ratio.
Guess I'll find out in a few months when I move to Germany...

The supercharger isn't disconnected, it's just not producing boost while cruising.
My bad, guess I need some S/C schooling (came from a turbo car). My thought was if you are creating zero boost, the magnetic clutch would have to disenguage otherwise the belt would continue to turn the rotors, hence making boost. My bad.
Just a quick question - where are you going that you drive 390 miles a day?!?! You said you do this a lot ... like daily? Move closer to where you have to go ... at $8-9 dollars a gallon the money you save on gas will buy you 2 SRT6 a year. $8/gal x 14gal=$112 gas/day x 365 days = $40,880 in gas per year assuming that you are actually getting to drive 390 miles on 1 tank of gas at those speeds. I thought the speed limit in Sweden was 120kph = 75mph.
well, it was a good discussion I guess, but I would think this kind of driving would be really, really, rare.....even the autobaun has speed limits now....and no, the S/C wouldn't be disengaged...but fuel consumption is less than wot....it would only be hypothetical, but I would say you would probably drop 30% over normal fuel mileage, but again, it depends on the rpm running at that speed...I am usually busy hangin' on rather than watching what that is...lol

Anyway this is FUBU we are dealing with and his posts are not the most logical and generally can be taken with a pinch of salt. He has been on and on about an SRT-6 but has not done anything about it, I put him in the troll category.
Just go back over his previous posts.

Hi everyone.
I drive my n/a for work. Get also paid by done mileage. So fuel consumption is not really that important. But I get approximate 30 sek / 1000 km.
Okay, maybe 200 km/h for 1 hour straight. Average speed was prob. 150km/h and was driving 4 hour straight.
Troll category? Could not see what the link was portraying...
Hmm, yes I have been speaking about everything from converting to buying a SRT6. What I will do is still a mystery. But now I have have seen that the cars in canada have km/h etc. Might decide to get one from there. Nevertheless, this is a forum right? I tought you were able and allowed to raise opinions and questions. Hmm okay, maybe I over exaggerated when said I went thatfast for 3 hour constant. But it was at high speed for a long periodof time. As the other user said, take it with a pinch of salt.
Hmm moving closer, I have Sweden as my clientregion. But am going to FL soon. Seen a blue srt coupe and it's quite nice. If I get a bonus I am definitely interested. But hey, salt..
Have a nice day everyone! And enjoy your rides! Just put on my wintertyres..
