Default Looking at getting a 2005 Crossfire SRT6... Opinions

Hey guys. I'm new here, just joined today. I'm looking to get a little advice on buying a srt6 crossfire. Now I know its biased here, but I wanna hear what you guys think lol. I recenly sold my car and I'm looking for a weekend/fun car. I came across a 05 srt6 w/ 40k ish miles, and I can get it for 13200. No accidents, and looks to be in good shape. Oh btw its a coupe.

What do you guys think? Is that a good deal? What should I look for when buying? Any common problems? Also how's the maintenance on these? I mean parts are probably expensive since some are benz parts (although I work for chrysler and can get a discount). I've browsed the forums a little, but I apologize since some of my questions have been answered before.

Thanks in advance for all the help!

1st. off....welcome to the forum.
Even with your "Chrysler" employee discount, you will probably still be able to purchase most parts from Mercedes for less money.

I don't own a SRT6, so I'll let someone from that "camp" give you the low down on what to expect.

Good Luck with your purchase. Personally, I think it sounds like a good deal.

Thanks! I'm really debating what I want to do. I mean I guess I really only want to do it if its a good to pretty good deal as its not a necissity to have a weekend car here for winter

If it's clean without any accident/flood history it sounds like a great price.
Good luck and let us know if you buy it.
I also don't have the SRT model so I'll let the SRT guys chime in here.
I know of a few common problems that can occur but not really expensive stuff to repair.

That is a great price if it is a clean SRT. Some of the more common issues are IC pump, crankshaft position sensor (CPS), faulty solder on the RCM. The IC pump is about $120 IIRC, CRS about $40, fix the RCM yourself for nothing. These are the main ones that seem to come up alot. I have had to replace the CPS, but that is my only issue to date. These are well built cars that are pretty trouble free. Maintenance wise, all of the mechanicals are Mercedes as it was built using the SLK32 platform. The main thing maintenance wise is that it takes 8.5 Qts. of Mobil One 0W40 Synthetic oil and a fleece filter to do an oil change. Dealer charge for an oil change is about $120. Most people here do the oil changes themselves, but it is still not cheep. Having said that, the oil is changed every 7,500 miles, so you will not be changing it that often. If you have it as a weekend driver like I do, you would probably just change the oil once a year.

It has been said many times on this forum, but the SRT is probably the best value on the market today for a performance car.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks again for the responses. The guy is the 3rd owner, and it has a clean carfax. I can do basic maintenance myself, so hearing that parts aren't toooo expensive helps. Oh and its black btw.

Well, if it helps any I have never heard of an SRT-6 owner having buyers remorse or wishing that they had bought something else instead. There are many owners on this forum that have moved on to other cars, but leave with a satisfaction of the ownership experience.

Just buy it, and join us in the permagrin club.

Next will come the itch to do some performance modifications.

Here is my 3 cents... I paid $21,000 two years ago, have spent $5,000 on performance and visual mods since and I still feel that I got a good deal. It is fun beating vettes at drag strips. $13,200 is a stellar deal for a good XF SRT.

As said earlier, the IC Pump is a little under-powered. I only notice it when I drive aggressively for long durations. Normal driving, at least for me, doesn't cause any problems.

Oh yea, I almost forgot; Welcome

Robert

i bought two of them new off the dealer lot. one's a weekend driver (5,900 miles) and the other's a time-capsule (680 miles). if your prospect has been well-taken care of and you're reasonably happy with the purchase (condition, price, history, etc.), then jump on it. i think these cars are the best auto deal of the last ten years.

If it is clean and checks out $13200 is an amazing price. Welcome to the forum and go get that SRT B4 some one else steals it.

There's one in town for sale and he's asking $10,000 more. Get a mechanic to check it out and buy it now if it's clean. Mine was more in the spring, with more miles. You will not find more performance for less money - anywhere!
