Advice
I pretty much have it narrowed down to two cars at this point. I "should" have the money for both soon, I dont think either will sell before spring.
I test drove the 2005 crossfire srt6. an amazing car. there was not one thing I didnt like about it, it would run me 16k for it when all is said and done. has 55k on it.
Am about to check out an s2000, 2002 for 11k. does have some mods, intake, exhaust etc. nothing crazy. it has 88k miles on it. slight tear in soft top. If i was to go that route I was thinking of doing a hard top, maybe I could talk him down to 9.5-10k and invest the rest in a HT.
I know this is a crossfire forum but just seeing opinions etc.
Whenever I get my refund for moving out of the dorms I should have 10-13k cash. If I could get the crossfire for that id almost 100% take it as it has half the miles.
Thanks for any responses.

If I buy it and a week later something goes wrong, no I probably can't afford that. But I have a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville right now. almost at 130k. all paid off including insurance but its starting to fall apart. Ive totaled it twice its been through hell and back. Ive learned my lessons. I might be foolish but Im not an idiot. No matter what I end up doing Ill have a min. of 3k that Im not touching and already have saved.
Id rather spend double the money on a car Im going to enjoy and enjoy taking care of then waiting for this one to **** the bed and then buy another pos that I hate. I enjoy driving more than anything, now I just want to enjoy what I drive.

Barnzy7, it basically boils down to what you want to do with the car, and what you expect the car to do for you.
Honda's are incredibly dependable cars, and thanks to there abundance, it dosen't cost nearly as much to mod them to what ever level that you desire.
In "Bone stock" condition, about the only thing an SRT will do better than the Honda is out accellerate it in the 1/4 mile, by about a 1/2 a second. Of course it will probably keep that same lead to its (restricted) top speed of 155 mph. (156 mph for the Honda).
The cars go thru a slalom course at nearly identical speeds. Crossfire 69.6 vs 69.7 for the S2K.
On a road course the S2K's rack and pinion steering will feel light and tossable, compared to the more heavy "feel" of the Crossfire's recirculating ball arrangment. In the end, it would probably boil down to a drivers race. But IMO, the XF's H.P. would probably still come out ahead.
Styling is purely subjective . But everybody here will tell you, the Crossfire turns far more heads, with out a doubt. I would think that the Crossfire (essentially being a Mercedes) would also have a more expensive "feel" as well, when compared to the Honda.
I wouldn't be afraid of a S2K with 88k miles as long as it hasn't been too abused. The same holds true with any Crossfire. Have both cars checked out by a reputable tech. before spending any $$.
Good Luck.

If there is "not one thing you did not like about the SRT6" and you have $3k in the bank and you have learned from your past driving mistakes, then by all means buy the SRT6. Live the dream. If you can do your own oil changes you'll save money, but tires are not cheap for this car and if you enjoy spinning the rears you will need them frequently. Hopefully you are now mature enough to leave the SRT6 home when you are doing foolish stuff and you can enjoy it for a long, long time. One stupid mistake, and you just make my SRT6 more rare and valuable.
Im drooling right now, the price just got dropped from 14.9 to 12.9k because he wants to get it done by winter. I called to see where my money is and they are in no rush to send it to me. There is no way this car is going to last at this price.
Anyone have any advice what you' do in this situation? besides move on and forget it

"Anyone have any advice what you' do in this situation?"
Tell him you'll pay higher than the 12.9 (maybe 14k) if he will wait a couple of weeks - explain your situation and plead your case. Let him know you WILL buy as soon as your funds are on hand.

gonna call the school again to see when I can expect my money, its a joke. they are quick to send me the bills when they want their money but its been 4 months waiting for this check and they "still havent recieved the money from the bank" to refund me.

If so, then have at it...good luck with your decision...just make sure you repay your student loans son...Dad is over and out.....seriously...read through the threads about the repairs before you jump and leave the '02 alone...find something else...
Seriously, if you're on a shoestring budget, a Crossfire is not for you. Are you aware of the oil change cost? 8 quarts of Mobil 1 oil plus filter will set you back around $60 doing it yourself. Double that if a dealer does it.
And that's just regular maintenance. These cars are all Mercedes parts under the hood so repairs are not cheap unless you have resources for parts and have the skill and knowledge to do it yourself. There have been many here on the forum that had to sell because they could no longer afford the upkeep.
$5 oil changes for life if I get them done at the dealership, id rather do it myself but cant beat that. Lol Im not trying to pull hairs. I guess now that Im reading my posts, im asking the same questions hoping your going to say GET IT ha.
my car is all paid off, worst comes to worst i drive that again and have the sell the xfire if thats the route i end up going

here's the deal. The Cross is not inexpensive to maintain, but it's not a ***** either. You get alot of car for not alot of buck. The honda is aa honda. It is what it is. a ggod car? yep. An overblown miata yep. So you get an SRT. I hae an NA and really really happy. I sometimes wish I had come across an SRT at the time, but I didn't and even with that I'm ok. No the Cross will be with me because it's different. that's the key!!! The honda is like a dozen others. The Cross, in the Porsche class on the street.
