Default Tons of Power

Does anyone have a problem of too much power from their SRT-6? I know that's probably a stupid question, but this thing is damn fast. When driving in a straight line, I slam on the accelerator and the car pulls a bit to one side or another. Same thing happens from a stand still. I'm a wuss, so I let up off the petal instead of keeping on it and properly steering. Car has properly inflated performance tires and was just alligned last month. I never had this problem with other sport cars that I have had including the Dodge viper.

Can anyone offer some tips on how I can properly drive this car to its max abilities?

On an unrelated note, my auto insurance on the SRT-6 is 1.5x higher than the other vehicles on the policy.

I have been on here for a few years now and no one to my knowledge has complained about too much HP. My first guess would have been tire pressure. My next guesses would be tires, road surfaces, and shocks. You may also want to have the allignment checked, especially the rear allignment. Other possibilities could be ball joints, wheel bearings and steering gear and steering dampner. My car goes straight except the rear end will step out a little to the right when doing a burn out.

For the full fun factor, you need to do the following:
1. Do a trottle body reset (search this forum).
2. Turn traction control off.
3. Sharply press pedal to the floor ensuring that you hear the distinct click of the OMG button that is under the pedal.
4. Hold on and clench your cheeks.

The sideways pulling you are getting is due to the fact that these cars have an open differential vs a LSD.

Have you done any performance mods?

Since I had my tuned by Eurocharged and added the Sprint booster, the car leaps from a stop. I don't have to floor it to have it "crawl" sideways when pulling away from a stop. Even with the traction control off, if I start our with a feather throttle then get on it, I can feel the tires spinning through the intersection.

I LOVE THIS CAR!

Coming from someone with a lowly NA, this might not mean much, but for God's sakes' grow a pair LOL

I would recommend going somewhere that you can experiment with the car under CONTROLLED circumstances, such as a track. You can get a great feel for the car and not endanger other people in the mean time.....

i read your initial post about buying the car and you stated it had a pulley. if in fact you do have a pulley and no tune i would shy away from high speed runs until you get a tune. a call to the former owner would be prudent to find out exactly what pulley you have. if he was a member on here it may be listed in his sig.
running a pullied car at wot without a tune is not advisable!

Goign full throttle anywhere during 1st usually ended up in massive wheel spin for me... I got so bad it was hard to not spin the tires and kick it out a little bit. But that was after all the goodies. Before i did them the car was very docile with alot of punch.

Get better tires
I have a truck that would spin the tires @ 3k in every gear.
Just thought it was over powered, until I got good tires.
now w/ proper throttle control, it sticks

To OP: I have that same problem except mine goes sideways at 80mph when I punch it to go around annoying people on the highways in Mexico . I run 285/35 18 Nitto 555R2 road course/drag tires on the street and always have ESP off..............and I power through it.

that is weird, my insurance is cheaper on the srt6 than it is on my hyundai elantra.

are your tires bald? i would suspect that is your problem.

Too much power? I think most of us believe that pound for pound and
dollar for dollar this car is a contender. But, most of the folks on here seem
to be trying hard to find ways to make more.

Keeping the wheels from spinning a bit of an art with this car, but it can be
done. It is, though, awful fun to put a little extra pressure on the throttle
and have the wheels spin. Doesn't take much, really. But, tire choice can
help. Even so, I step on the gas too hard, and the rear end will start
moving leftward. Hopefully, this condition will soon be helped with the
addition of a new LSD unit.

Good luck, be careful and have fun.

After you add the LSD it won't just move leftward...............it will move leftward, then right, then left, then right and so on. lol I have PG LSD and that was the first thing I noticed; after the install the rear of my 6 was like a puppy(wagging its tail) when you get home from work.

Ah, but that's the type of behavior the Wavetrac is supposed to be
designed to defeat, providing smooth power to both wheels without the
fishtailing. If it does, I hope it ain't as vigorous as my dog wags. He
can beat a hole in your wall.

Cheers,

Coyote
