Im thinking about summer tires.

I just read most of the tire review thread.
I wanted to see if there any kind of consencece what the best tire is for the SRT6. I was thinking about going with the BRIDGESTONE, RE050A POLE POSITION 235/40/18 Front AND 285/35/19 Rear

 

those are my favorites so far, great in the dry and rain and the car feels more balanced than with the stock tires/size.

they do great on the street and the track(road course)

Have you not run into clearance issues/tight clearances with the fronts running 235/40/18 without spacers? Mine were very tight w/o spacers and I have not lowered it.
Just asking.....

As far as Bridgestones go, I used to swear by them - old school Potenza RE71.....felt like you had glue on the wheels, but they only lasted 15K miles (180 treadwear). My driving might have had something to do with that.

I put Nittos on the Crossfire when the Michelin Pilot Sports wore out, and was thinking of going Hankook next based on reviews here. But Bridgestones might be a something good to look at for the next round of tires. Please report back how you like them if you do get them....Photo, what kind of mileage did you get from your Bridgestones?

The Nittos are great, but they do wear quick.

I have had 3 sets of PS 2's on the coupe and have been pleased wiith them. Currently i am on the Hankooks and at half price of the Ps 2 they are a plesant suprise. They are relatively quiet with a good ride and respond well when pushed.

How much are the Bridgestones?

 

I am with you to the point of trying to squeeze that 285/35 on that stock rim.
If you go as big as 285+ I would go 30 series instead of 35.

 

The 30 is the same width as the 35 but closer to the same hieght.
Even the slightest in Taller tires on the Crossfire seems to slow it off the line.

 

i didn't really see a consensus on that thread other than people wanting the best tire for the lowest price. i live in calif. so the oem ps2's are the best tire for me (price isn't a factor).

 

Michelin N1 ps2 xl are the best tire. If not those I would rate the nitto invo a very close second...but just dont last as long. Not a big fan of the bridgestone re05a...Im running I forged aero's with 235 35 19 front ad 305 30 19 rear Michelins ps2...great set and love the tire specially for summer...

 

it really just depends on what you plan to do with the car. if it is just street driving, no racing or mostly driving fast in the curves then any cheap performance tire or high performance all season will do. if you mostly race, do not care about treadwear then get a tire that is geared towards that. if you want a good all around performance tire that leans a little towards the track more then get one of the higher rated performance tires with a lower treadware rating.

when i read reviews on tires, i ignore the ricers, those that only talk crap and never run on the track. they tend to spew nonsence and bullcrap and waste my time. go to tirerack.com and read the reviews they help. filter out the ricers though lol. if you are into track racing go to track oriented forums to get advice.

my experience for doing a mixed amount of track and street use the pole positions gave the car the best balance and traction. you can check out my youtube vids, the car seems to do great with them. i seem to have no probs passing bmw's, porsche's, etc. with those tires. different tires work for different people/setups. i love mine, they are a good balance of treadwear/performance. they stick fantastic on the track for me and are fantastic in the wet/dry on the street. the treadwear is good so far but i do not care about that at all, if you are worried about treadwear then get a minivan and 700 treadwear low rolling resistance green tires.

 

I have the same question. As a new SRT6 owner who can see a tire purchase in the next few months, what are your impressions on the best all-around tires for a daily driver? I live in Florida so winter isn't an issue, but rain is. Let me know if anyone out there is getting significantly more than 30K a set on any particular brand and daily use.

 

I've got the Yokohama Avis and got 45k easily out of EM and they're great in the rain and stick like glue in dry weather

I'm a new SRT6 owner myself, but my car has brand new Hankook Ventus V12 tires on it, and I'm very pleased with them so far. I already have the same tires on my Cadillac CTS Coupe, and had them on my Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8GT when I owned it.

Are there "better performing" tire choices out there? Sure... I don't think almost anyone who has tried multiple brands of tires on the track considers these Hankooks the "absolute best". But they're consistently given high ratings for both dry weather and rain ... typically in the top 3-4 tire choices mentioned.

To be honest, the vehicle I've been the least impressed with them on is my CTS Coupe. That's not to say they're bad at all, but rather, the car is big and heavy and I notice the tires sometimes feel like they're at their limits of grip if I make a sudden stop. The Ventus tires seem to work a little better on lighter-weight, smaller cars.

What really pushes the Hankooks to the top of the list is the pricing and variety of harder-to-find tires sizes they come in. I don't think you can buy a CHEAPER tire in a harder-to-find size that out-performs them. So IMO, a sensible choice for the daily driver of a higher-performance vehicle, who isn't looking for ultimate performance for the track.

 

I am currently running on Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's and loving them so far.

 

Michelin pilot super sport - i have had them on since michelin released them and they are just magnificent, in wet and dry.

 

I agree with kingtj. I have them on my SRT-6 and my 2012 Mustang GT. For the money, grip, and available sizes, the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's are great. Lots of BMW guys at the suspension shop I frequent also use them with good results on M3's and M5's.
