Default Cracked pulley - Thank you Rob @ Needswings for saving the day

Here is the story.

Two weeks ago on Saturday, February 19th both my SRT and Ashley's SRT were to be tuned. We found that there was a vibration in my car. We could not dyno the car. Possible problems are some slippage in the serpentine belt, the rear wheel bearings or the drive shaft. Ashley's car was put on the dyno and the fuel ratio would only come down a certain level and it was suggested that we put on a new fuel filter. Her SRT was tuned.

This past Friday, we put on the new fuel filter on Ashley's car without any problems. I decided to go ahead and put a new belt and check the pulley bearings on my car. This is where the issue was found. The pulley bearing next to the supercharger sounded a little rough and upon removing the pulley found that the pulley itself was cracked all the way across. (I was very lucky that this problem was caught before the pulley disintegrated) This particular pulley is not available at this moment and is on backorder from Mercedes. I called Rob at needs wings and he suggested putting on a pulley saver kit. This involved changing two of the pulley's and eliminating the cracked pulley and adding a pulley and putting on a longer belt.

Rob shipped the parts overnight and Monday morning the mechanic and I took off the old pulleys and put on the new pulleys. The only issue was getting the nut on the back of one of the bolts on the new relocated pulley. I think it took longer to get the washer and nut on than it did to change the other two pulleys and put on the new belt.

This afternoon I will be dropping my car off at the dealer to have new rear wheel bearings put on and to check the drive shaft. Hopefully, this will eliminate the vibration and the car can be put back on the dyno.

I just wanted to thank Rob at needswings for taking all my phone calls and sending me the schematics and pictures of the pulley saver kit installation.

PS Ashley's car is an absolute beast. I let the neighbor drive it who is a big mustang fan. He has a modded GT that sounds great. He was extremely, I repeat extremely impressed with the power that her car has, especially the low end torque. It is difficult to keep the wheels from spinning with any acceleration.

Any chance you have a pic of the cracked pulley? Might help someone in the future identify an issue with thiers.

Once again, a Rob/Needwings success story!

That would be the SC idler pulley if I am not mistaken....

Glad that you caught it before it hand grenaded on you... Good luck with the other repairs....

I dropped the car off at the dealer for rear wheel bearings. It took 3 weeks to get the parts along with hood and trunk strust. They are also putting on new rocker gaskets due to very slight leakage.

I will pick the car up Tuesday and will try and get a picture of the pulley.

Randy,

Did the A/F ratio come down to the right range when you changed the Fuel Filter on Ashley's car?
